In this report, we examine the unsteady Stokes equations with nonhomogeneous boundary conditions. As an application of a Carleman estimate, we first establish log type stabilities for the solution of the equations from either an interior measurement of the velocity, or a boundary observation depending on the trace of the velocity and of the Cauchy stress tensor measurements on a part of the boundary.

Research purposes: We consider some inverse source problems for parabolic equations, focus on three topics: First, we give stability estimates. Second, we propose regularization methods to solve these problems. Third, we set up algorithms and give numerical examples to illustrate the performance of the proposed regularization methods in this thesis.

In this paper, source is considered as a single equivalent dipole and genetic algorithm, an efficient and robust optimization method, is proposed to estimate parameters of source. Some improvements are introduced to enhance performance of conventional genetic algorithm.

In this article we present a complete classification for the parametric surfaces of bidegree (1, 2) over the real field. We also provide some results for the inverse problem: given a segment of a line or twisted cubic curve, we look for a patch (1, 2) which includes this segment as a subset of its singular locus.

In this paper, efforts are made to develop suitable methods that can serve as the basis to detect crack location and to crack size from measured axial vibration data. This method is used to address the inverse problem of assessing the crack location and crack size in various beam structure.

Research objectives: Using boundary integral observations or observations on a part of the boundary instead of point-wise observations are new approaches to setting the inverse problem and have physical and practical meanings.

We show that the Dirichlet to Neumann map for the equation ∇·σ∇u = 0 in a two-dimensional domain uniquely determines the bounded measurable conductivity σ. This gives a positive answer to a question of A. P. Calder´n o from 1980. Earlier the result has been shown only for conductivities that are sufficiently smooth. In higher dimensions the problem remains open. Contents Introduction and outline of the method

Consider the inverse eigenvalue problem of the Schr¨dinger operator deo fined on a finite interval. We give optimal and almost optimal conditions for a set of eigenvalues to determine the Schr¨dinger operator. These conditions are o simple closedness properties of the exponential system corresponding to the known eigenvalues. The statements contain nearly all former results of this topic. We give also conditions for recovering the Weyl-Titchmarsh m-function from its values m(λn ).

We prove that knowing the lengths of geodesics joining points of the boundary of a two-dimensional, compact, simple Riemannian manifold with boundary, we can determine uniquely the Riemannian metric up to the natural obstruction. 1. Introduction and statement of the results Let (M, g) be a compact Riemannian manifold with boundary ∂M . Let dg (x, y) denote the geodesic distance between x and y. The inverse problem we address in this paper is whether we can determine the Riemannian metric g knowing dg (x, y) for any x ∈ ∂M , y ∈ ∂M . ...

is symmetric. However, since the weights wj are not equal for most quadrature rules, the matrix K (equation 18.1.5) is not symmetric. The matrix eigenvalue problem is much easier for symmetric matrices, and so we should restore the symmetry if possible.

special quadrature rules, but they are also sometimes blessings in disguise, since they can spoil a kernel’s smoothing and make problems well-conditioned. In §§18.4–18.7 we face up to the issues of inverse problems.
