Lysophosphatidylcholine

Phospholipids are known to influence fibril formation of amyloid beta (Ab) peptide. Here, we show that lysophosphatidylcholine (LPC), a polar phos-pholipid, enhances Ab(1-42) fibril formation, by decreasing the lag time and the critical peptide concentration required for fibril formation, and increasing the fibril elongation rate.

Lysophosphatidylcholine induces expression of adhesion molecules; how-ever, the underlying molecular mechanisms of this are not well elucidated. In this study, the intracellular signaling by which lysophosphatidylcholine upregulates vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 and P-selectin was delineated using YPEN-1 and HEK293T cells.

Mononuclear phagocytes play a pivotal role in the pro-gression of septic shock by producing tumor necrosis factor-a(TNF-a) andother inflammatorymediators in response to lipopolysaccharide (LPS) fromGram-negativebacteria.Our previous studies have shown monocyte and macrophage activationcorrelatewithchanges inmembranephospholipid composition, mediated by acyltransferases. Interferon-c (IFN-c), which activates and primes these cells for enhanced inflammatory responses to LPS, was found to selectively activate lysophosphatidylcholine acyltransferase (LPCAT) (P...
