Maintaining Data
-
Data Integrity Data integrity means that data in a database adheres to business rules. There are three primary ways in which data integrity can be maintained: Application code Database triggers Declarative integrity constraints Mapping the business rules using one of the three methods is a design decision. The database administrator is primarily concerned with implementing the methods chosen by the designer and balancing the performance needs against integrity requirements.

This paper presents a method that assists in maintaining a rule-based named-entity recognition and classification system. The underlying idea is to use a separate system, constructed with the use of machine learning, to monitor the performance of the rule-based system. The training data for the second system is generated with the use of the rule-based system, thus avoiding the need for manual tagging. The disagreement of the two systems acts as a signal for updating the rule-based system.

This paper proposes a novel approach for effectively utilizing unsupervised data in addition to supervised data for supervised learning. We use unsupervised data to generate informative ‘condensed feature representations’ from the original feature set used in supervised NLP systems. The main contribution of our method is that it can offer dense and low-dimensional feature spaces for NLP tasks while maintaining the state-ofthe-art performance provided by the recently developed high-performance semi-supervised learning technique. ...

This is to be contrasted by the fact that the NII may well be the most important technology needed to facilitate a coordinated NSDI. The Mapping Science Committee (MSC) has recommended1 that the NSDI be developed to a level that would support the needs of the nation. The costs of creating and maintaining digital spatial data are high, so it is particularly important that spatial data collection not be duplicated,

Strengthen your understanding of data structures and their algorithms for the foundation you need to successfully design, implement and maintain virtually any software system. Theoretical, yet practical, DATA STRUCUTRES AND ALGORITHMS IN C++, 4E by experienced author Adam Drosdek highlights the fundamental connection between data structures and their algorithms, giving equal weight to the practical implementation of data structures and the theoretical analysis of algorithms and their efficiency.

For many NLP tasks, including named entity tagging, semi-supervised learning has been proposed as a reasonable alternative to methods that require annotating large amounts of training data. In this paper, we address the problem of analyzing new data given a semi-supervised NE tagger trained on data from an earlier time period. We will show that updating the unlabeled data is sufficient to maintain quality over time, and outperforms updating the labeled data.

In this demo, we present a wiki-style platform – WikiBABEL – that enables easy collaborative creation of multilingual content in many nonEnglish Wikipedias, by leveraging the relatively larger and more stable content in the English Wikipedia. The platform provides an intuitive user interface that maintains the user focus on the multilingual Wikipedia content creation, by engaging search tools for easy discoverability of related English source material, and a set of linguistic and collaborative tools to make the content translation simple. ...

This article presents a security module based on a field programmable gate array (FPGA) to mitigate man-in-the-middle cyber attacks. Nowadays, the FPGA is considered to be the state of the art in nuclear power plants I&C systems due to its flexibility, reconfigurability, and maintainability of the FPGA technology; it also provides acceptable solutions for embedded computing applications that require cybersecurity.

I n 1989, Bill Jelen took a job in a finance department to maintain a very expensive reporting tool. When he discovered on day one that this new tool did not work, he began to learn how to use a $299 spreadsheet program in ways no sane person would ever think to use it. To the manager who hired him, he now wants to admit that all the reports that allegedly came out of the $50K 4th GL reporting tool from 1989 through 1994 really were actually produced with Lotus 1-2-3 and, later, Excel. Thinking he was the smartest spreadsheet guy he knew, Jelen launched MrExcel.com in 1998 and...

In the “old days” of the Internet, most web pages were nothing more than text files containing HTML. When people visited your site, your web server simply made the file available to their browsers. This approach started out fine, but as web sites grew, and issues such as design and navigation became more important, developers found that maintaining consistency across hundreds of HTML files was becoming a massive headache. To solve this problem, it became popular to separate variable content (articles, news items, and so on) from the static elements of the site—its design and layout.
