  • This work is intended to survey the basic theory that underlies the multitude of parameter-rich models that dominate the hydrological literature today. It is concerned with the application of the equation of continuity (which is the fundamental theorem of hydrology) in its complete form combined with a simplified representation of the principle of conservation of momentum. Since the equation of continuity can be expressed in linear form by a suitable choice of state variables and is also parameterfree, it can be readily formulated at all scales of interest.

  • Let G be a connected, real, semisimple Lie group contained in its complexification GC , and let K be a maximal compact subgroup of G. We construct a KC -G double coset domain in GC , and we show that the action of G on the K-finite vectors of any irreducible unitary representation of G has a holomorphic extension to this domain. For the resultant holomorphic extension of K-finite matrix coefficients we obtain estimates of the singularities at the boundary, as well as majorant/minorant estimates along the boundary. ...

  • One of the main issues raised at the Conference was the defini- tion and scope of the field. Neuroaesthetics is often conceived as the study of the neural basis of the production and appreciation of artworks (Changeux, 1994; Nalbantian, 2008; Zeki, 1998, 2001; Zeki & Lamb, 1994). However, Brown and Dissanayake (2009) argued that because art goes beyond aesthetic concerns, this definition is too broad in that it attempts to account for the biological underpinnings of artistic behavior, which includes a number of cognitive and affective mechanisms that have no aes- thetic relevance.

  • From the system we call the ‘normal equation system’ we can solve K normal equations for K unknown beta coefficients. The straight-forward representation of the solution is expressed in the matrix algebra. However, since the main purpose is the application and EViews. Other data analysis software is available, so we can easily find regression coefficients without remembering all the algebraic expressions.

  • We consider a specialization of an untwisted quantum affine algebra of type ADE at a nonzero complex number, which may or may not be a root of unity. The Grothendieck ring of its finite dimensional representations has two bases, simple modules and standard modules. We identify entries of the transition matrix with special values of “computable” polynomials, similar to Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials. At the same time we “compute” q-characters for all simple modules. The result is based on “computations” of Betti numbers of graded/cyclic quiver varieties.

  • This paper evaluates the LinGO Grammar Matrix, a cross-linguistic resource for the development of precision broad coverage grammars, by applying it to the Australian language Wambaya. Despite large typological differences between Wambaya and the languages on which the development of the resource was based, the Grammar Matrix is found to provide a significant jump-start in the creation of the grammar for Wambaya: With less than 5.5 person-weeks of development, the Wambaya grammar was able to assign correct semantic representations to 76% of the sentences in a naturally occurring text. ...
