  • Finger millet is an important nutritive crop of the semi-arid zones of the world and it is the staple food crops for millions of people in Africa and Asia. To achieve more sustainable production from finger millet based cropping systems intercropping and sequential cropping of finger millet with pulse and oil seeds proved better and recorded more system yield per unit area than sole cropping of finger millet. Among the different finger mill based cropping systems finger millet + legumes recorded more sustainable yield and less weeds, insects and diseases infestation in the crop.

  • Ablo is a wet bread, slightly salty and sweet, steamed and sold in the form of pellets. The study is intended to develop the production’s technology of two new types of Ablo. The methodology adopted consists of carrying out production tests according to the original process described by Aholou-yeyi (2007) modified. The results showed that production of sorghum-based Ablo technology and production of millet-based Ablo technology followed four main steps, namely: the preparation of flour, the preparation of the dough to ferment, fermentation and cooking.

  • Millet based products are economically viable and highlight the excellent medicinal and nutritional qualities. Kodo and kutki based products were developed using various processing variables to enhance the nutritional value, palatability and functionality for school going children of Jabalpur and Dindori districts of Madhya Pradesh state in India. Various developed products were assessed for their acceptability using nine point hedonic scale. The values of mean score of acceptability of malted kodo and kutki millet were found to be 8.30 and 8.27 assessed by the students and 7.94 and 7.

  • The objective of present research work was to investigate the effect of process parameters viz., barrel temperature, screw speed and feed moisture content on textural properties of extruded product. The extruded products were developed from composite blend comprising of maize, finger millet, defatted soy and elephant foot yam in the proportion of 40:30:20:10 through the use of co-rotating twin screw extruder. The experimental plan was designed by statistical technique of 3 factors 5 levels central composite rotatable design.

  • A field experiment was conducted during Rabi season (2014) at Millet Breeding Station of TNAU, Coimbatore, TamilNadu to evaluate little millet based intercropping system under rainfed condition with five intercrops viz., radish, coriander, small onion, blackgram and greengram in 8:2 ratio under replacement series. Improvement in plant height, DMP, productive tillers plant-1 , grains panicle-1 , thousand grain weight and little millet grain equivalent yield (LMGEY) were recorded in intercropping over sole little millet.

  • A field experiment was conducted during kharif, 2019 on sandy loam soils of dryland farm of S.V. Agricultural College, Tirupati campus of Acharya N.G. Ranga Agricultural University. The results of the experiment revealed that among the different intercropping systems, little millet + greengram (4:2) (T6) recorded significantly higher plant height, leaf area index, dry matter production followed by little millet + cowpea (4:2) (T7). Lower values of these growth parameters were recorded with little millet + cluster bean (4:2) (T8).

  • Minor millets are under-exploited plant species often dubbed as ‘Crops for the future’ as they are best adapted to less fertile area and can survive limited water situations and relatively free from pests and diseases. Degenerate oligo-PCR strategy was employed to isolate resistant gene analogues from minor millets by amplifying samples using NBSLRR gene specific primers. Genomic DNA was isolated from the young leaves of minor millets viz., Foxtail millet (Setaria italica) var. CO 5 and Finger millet (Eleusine corocana) var. CO (Ra) 14 by following CTAB method with minor modifications.

  • Field experiment was conducted during Kharif from 2010 to 2015 at GKVK, Bangalore to know the feasibility of cultivation of fingermillet in Melia dubia. There were six treatment combinations comprising intercrop of finger millet planted in different spacings with Melia dubia and finger millet alone as control. Results revealed that, sole finger millet recorded significantly higher grain (26.1 q ha-1 ) and straw yield (5865 kg ha-1 ), which was attributed to higher growth and yield attributes like number of productive tillers (6.17 hill-1 ) and 1000 seed weight (3.69 g).

  • An experiment was undertaken by utilizing forty finger millet genotypes for eleven yield and yield contributing characters to assess genetic divergence. The analysis of variance has shown that there was significant variation among the genotypes in all the traits. The multivariate analysis carried out using Mahalanobis D2-statistics, indicated wider genetic diversity in the genotypes of finger millet.

  • This study is based on the data collected from a sample of 120 farmers selected from amongst the selected villages within the selected markets/mandis. The whole sample design consists of multistage random sampling. The selection of the district forms the first stage in sampling. Bhiwani and Mahindergarh districts of Haryana were purposively selected to represent a case study. These markets are selected because these market were the vicinity of the research. One block was selected from each selected district of Mahandragarh and Bhiwani.
