Modeling and imaging

The mobile phone is a ubiquitous portable device capable of generating and displaying narrative content in the form of voice communications, text, images and video. It could be said that hybrid devices such as the mobile phone can create hybrid narratives. It is the aim of this exegesis to outline the theories, concepts and artistic practices that inform the design, production and display of narrative content that utilizes the potential of the mobile phone as a tool for storytelling.

This research investigates the interactive effects of usability, the designer perspective and user expectations on the user experience (UX) of e-commerce websites. It incorporates the theoretical underpinnings of Norman’s (1988) seminal research specifically, Mental Models and Nielsen’s User Categories (1993) to explore the different mental models, domain and technology expertise of two distinct groups – users and designers – in the interaction with a selected system image, that of the e-commerce website.

This dissertation addresses calls from both tourism and marketing researchers for a holistic framework and comprehensive examination of the role that the country cue plays in consumer behavior (Josiassen and Harzing 2008; Maheswaran et al. 2013). It provides much needed advancement to both the tourism and marketing research discipline by conceptualizing and empirically examining various pathways through which the country cue manifests in tourists’ and consumers’ behavior.

The purpose of the thesis is three-fold. The first aim is to thoroughly review the extant literature in marketing and management and to prioritise key findings on country image effects and the main determinants of employer attractiveness. The second aim is to develop and test the conceptual model comprising these key determinants. The third aim is to make a theoretical contribution to this new area of research and to provide implications for organisations in their recruitment marketing strategies locally and globally.

In the past three decades, due to significant liberalization and privatization the entire telecommunications industry has become a dynamic service industry subject to increasing competition with huge growth potential. (Graack, 1996). In recent years, in some Asian countries the number of mobile subscribers even passed the number of fixed-line subscribers (Fink, Matto, & Rathindran, 2003). Hence, the strategic behavior of telecommunications companies has attracted so much attention in recent years, both in the academic literature and in the popular press.
