Buckling and postbuckling behaviors of porous functionally graded graphene platelets-reinforced composite (porous FG-GPLRC) cylindrical shells with stiffeners subjected to external pressures are presented in this paper. Three distribution types of porosity in the shells are considered. The smeared technique for stiffeners is employed to model the mechanical behaviors of the stiffened shells.

This study shows that the stirrups corrosion should receive more attention in the serviceability limit state due to its considerable effect on flexural behavior. Based on a parametric study, it shows that the effect of the crosssection loss of tension reinforcements on the load-carrying capacity of the corroded beam is more significant than the bond strength reduction.

The modulus reduction and damping curves represent the nonlinear behavior of soil under cyclic load. In the literature, those curves were produced from lab tests of soil at particular confining stresses. This study developed a set of parameters that can be used to normalize the modulus reduction and damping curves to be stress-independent.

This paper addresses the strength and deformation capacity of slender columns retrofitted by externally bonded Carbon Fiber-Reinforced Polymers (CFRP) subjected to seismic loading. The behaviour of RC columns depending on the CFRP confinement (carbon CFRP jacket) and on flexural reinforcement (carbon plates) was analysed by a nonlinear finite element method based on multilayer shell element and multifiber beams with plasticity and damage models.

The shear behavior of steel fiber reinforced concrete (SFRC) beams has been assessed in a large number of previous studies. However, the shear strength of corroded SFRC beams without shear reinforcement is still an unresolved topic. In this paper, the finite element models of non-corroded and corroded SFRC beams have been constructed and verified regarding load-displacement curves, crack patterns, and failure modes.

In this study, we propose to build an equivalent 2D model to replace the 3D model of corrugated composite sheets, by the method of homogenization, to study the nonlinear mechanical behavior of corrugated core composite sheets. This model helps to significantly reduce the calculation time as well as the model building time. The model homogeneity is confirmed by comparing the numerical simulation results of the 2D model and the 3D model.

Model Predictive Control (MPC) refers to a class of algorithms that optimize the future behavior of the plant subject to operational constraints. The merits of the class algorithms include its ability to handle imposed hard constraints on the system and perform on-line optimization. This thesis investigates design and implementation of continuous time model predictive control using Laguerre polynomials and extends the design approaches proposed in to include intermittent predictive control, as well as to include the case of the nonlinear predictive control.

TRICHOTOMY, STABILITY, AND OSCILLATION OF A FUZZY DIFFERENCE EQUATION G. STEFANIDOU AND G. PAPASCHINOPOULOS Received 10 November 2003 We study the trichotomy character, the stability, and the oscillatory behavior of the positive solutions of a fuzzy difference equation. 1. Introduction Difference equations have already been successfully applied in a number of sciences (for a detailed study of the theory of difference equations and their applications, see [1, 2, 7, 8, 11].
