  • To supplement the livelihoods of tribal women and nutritional security in Tribal villages of Adilabad district of Telangana state, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Adilabad introduced Backyard Poultry (BYP) as a livelihood opportunity to the tribal women farmers. Under the Backyard Poultry 200 tribal women farmers were selected from the 8 adopted villages of KVK, Adilabad by Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) techniques. Every tribal women farmer was given 10 Rajashree birds as a unit with a worth of Rs.680 and few supplementary medicines and vaccines were also supplied.

  • The bun developed from Quality Protein Maize (QPM) was analysed for its nutritional composition, microbial profile and unit cost. The moisture content was found to be 21.46 ± 0.11 per cent, ash content 1.45 ± 0.03 per cent, fat 8.03 ± 0.40 per cent, fibre 0.81 ± 0.13 per cent, protein 1.98 ± 0.11 per cent and the carbohydrate content was observed to be 66.27 ± 0.20 per cent.

In this work we characterized plant probiotic yeast from different sources and investigated its multifunctional activity in promoting the growth of black gram.   • Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. lycopersici [FOL], the pathogen inflicting vascular wilt in tomato, pose a serious threat to the nutritional security. In India, due to lack of proper knowledge on the disease aetiology, the management of the disease becomes difficult. The main objective of this study is to select the most virulent FOL isolate among 7 putative Fusarium isolates, including 2 isolates acquired during field survey. The pathogenicity assay revealed the most virulent isolate TOFU-IHBT that exhibited systemic symptom in tomato plants within 5 days of pathogen inoculation.

  • The global food and nutritional security of growing population is a great challenge. Mushrooms provide a rich addition to the diet in the form of protein (12-35%), carbohydrates (26-82%), valuable salts, minerals and phenols. They are also good source of vitamins especially those of B complex group but are relatively poor in fat soluble vitamins, A, D, E and K. Among B complex vitamins, mushrooms are especially rich in thiamine (B1), riboflavin (B2), niacin and biotin.
