Olive cultivation blends with the history of the Mediterranean countries since ancient times. Even today, activities around the olive tree constitute major engagements of several people in the countryside of both sides of the Mediterranean basin. The olive fly is, beyond doubt, the most destructive pest of cultivated olives.

Despite its relevance, almost no studies account for the genetic control in the early stages of tree development, i.e. from germination on. This study seeks to make a quite complete transcriptome for olive development and to elucidate the dynamic regulation of the transcriptomic response during the early-juvenile period by RNAseq time-series expression analysis. The transcriptome was made from 342,049,597 paired-end reads of 101 bp in length. The assembled transcriptome contained 109,125 unigenes (N50 = 1490 bp, average length = 839).

Alternate bearing is a wide spread phenomenon in many fruit tree species and cause severe labour, marketing and economical problem. The term “alternate or biennial” bearing designate the production of a heavy fruit crop “On” year followed by a light fruit crop or trees may not bear a crop at all the next “Off” year. Alternate bearing is a widespread problem for growers of fruit trees, occurring in both evergreen and deciduous trees. It is more pronounced in old productive trees (more than 10 years) in comparison with the young productive trees (about 3-5 years).

This paper gives 25-year results for olive biodiversity because its resources are of great interest for environmental protection and mainly for finding all links within each ecosystem. The method was based to the descriptive morphological and molecular characters of the tree and organs, which has enabled the characterization and identification of genotypes.

Past clonal propagation of olive trees is intimately linked to grafting. However, evidence on grafting in ancient trees is scarce, and not much is known about the source of plant material used for rootstocks.

Olive (Olea europaea L.) is an emblematic oil tree crop in the Mediterranean basin. Currently, despite olive features as a moderately thermophilic species, its cultivation is worldwide spreading due to the health-related impact of olive products on human nutrition.

This study deals with the olive and oil paths in the district of Tirana, and has been aimed at promoting domestic tourism as a new opportunity for the economy, culture and history of the country. Some exploratory missions are performed to identify the oldest trees based on the information of the locals, over two basic terms: large trunk biometry, and indigenous Variety.

The purpose of this paper is to show, in a spatiotemporal point of view, the expansive dynamic of the olive tree. The main conclusion is this cycle has a very important potential growth ahead, but is not exempt of limitations and doubts, both for the new productive regions and the Mediterranean regions that are specialised in this millennial crop.

The genus Loranthus L. (Loranthaceae) is represented in Iran by 2 species: Loranthus europaeus Jacq. and L. grewingkii Boiss. & Buhse; the latter species is endemic to the area of Flora Iranica. The plants of Loranthus are hemiparasites growing on various host trees such as Quercus infectoria Oliv., Acer monspessulanum L., and Armeniaca vulgaris Lam.

Glyphosate isopropylamine and trifluralin are herbicides widely used in Turkish agriculture. The recommended field dose (RFD) (480 g of active ingredient l-1 for both glyphosate and trifluralin) and 2 × RFD of these herbicides were added to the soil of olive trees (Olea europaea L., Oleaceae) growing on the Çukurova University Campus (Adana) under Mediterranean climate conditions in order to determine their effects on soil microbial activity as measured by carbon mineralization.

The olive is one of the most important crops of the Mediterranean region. Ninety-eight percent of the world’s olive production occurs in this region. However, pest control is a major concern of olive growers, and the olive fruit fly is one of the major economic pests.

We studied 200 trees belonging to 20 accessions of cultivated olive (O. europaea L.) from 4 regions of origin, evaluated by means of agromorphological traits and simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers. The agromorphological traits showed high variation between genotypes and significant correlation coefficients were obtained among the values recorded in two consecutive years, 2013 and 2014.
