  • In this paper we propose an ant colony optimization algorithm (ACO) based method, equipped with some important improvements, for the founder DNA sequence reconstruction problem. The proposed method yields excellent performance when validating on 108 test sets from three benchmark datasets. Comparing with the best by far corresponding method, our proposed method performs better in 45 test sets, equally well in 44 and worse only in 19 sets. These experimental results demonstrate the efficacy and perspective of our proposed method.

  • This paper ties up some loose ends in finite-state Optimality Theory. First, it discusses how to perform comprehension under Optimality Theory grammars consisting of finite-state constraints. Comprehension has not been much studied in OT; we show that unlike production, it does not always yield a regular set, making finite-state methods inapplicable. However, after giving a suitably flexible presentation of OT, we show carefully how to treat comprehension under recent variants of OT in which grammars can be compiled into finite-state transducers.

  • The optimum conditions obtained from response surface analysis was 4.99 g/100 g moisture, 1.05 mm particle size and 9.2 h extraction time.   • The process of enzyme assisted extraction of essential oil from the leaves and branches of the Vietnamese aromatic plant Cinnamomum cassia was studied and optimized using a Box-Wilson central composite design consisting of 05 independent variables (pH, temperature T, time τ, concentration of the enzyme Laccase, and concentration of the enzyme Cellic Htec2), and two dependent variables (reducing sugar and yield of essential oil).

  • In this study, different ratio of ethanol to hydrolysates obtained by hydrolyzing chitin by chitinase as well as concentration of hydrolysates was investigated to find the optimal value. The result showed that the optimal ratio of absolute ethanol to hydrolysates was 9:1.

  • Exopolysaccharide (EPS) production ability of Lactobacillus plantarumT10 was studied. The supplement of some sugars (lactose, saccharose, and glucose) gave the positive effects on EPS production of L. plantarum T10, in which the addition of lactose 4 % resulted in the most efficiency for EPS yield (274.83 µg/mL).

  • Response surface methodology (RSM) was used to determine optimal condition for continuous overflow proteolytic hydrolysis of spent brewer’s yeast. The optimal conditions for obtaining high degree of hydrolysis and low bitterness are determined as followings: ratio of enzyme mixture (alcalase 7.5 U/g and flavourzyme 10 U/g), pH at 7.5, hydrolysis temperature at 51o C and hydrolysis time of 9 hours. Under the optimal conditions, the yield of hydrolysis was 59.62% ± 0.027 and the bitterness equivalently with concentration of quinine was 7.86 ± 0.033 µmol /ml.

  • The effects of four independent variables (pepsin enzyme content, acetic-acid concentration, liquid/solid ratio, and temperature) on the extraction yield of collagen from Pangasius hypophthalmus skin were evaluated.   • This paper proposes a new design optimization methodology of cask shielding to transport the spent fuel assembly in a prototype SFR for the first time. The Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm had been applied to design trade-offs between shielding and cask weight. The cask is designed as a double-cylinder structure to block an inert sodium region from the air-cooling space. The PSO process yielded the optimum shielding thickness of 26 cm, considering the weight as well.

  • I. Introduction An important aspect of nuclear reactor core analysis involves the determination of the optimal coolant flow distribution and pressure drop across the reactor core. On the one hand, higher coolant flow rates will lead to better heat transfer coefficients and higher Critical Heat Flux (CHF) limits. On the other hand, higher flows rates will also in large pressure drops across the reactor core, hence larger required pumping powers and larger dynamic loads on the core components.

  • The possibility of producing ethanol from biomass such as maize cobs and groundnut shells was investigated. Different concentrations of sulphuric acid (H2SO4) were used to determine the acid concentration that could produce an optimal yield of glucose. The results revealed that 4.5M H2SO4 produced the optimal yield of glucose and ethanol. This acid concentration was then used for the study of temperature effects on yield of glucose.   • In this chapter, we study the mathematical structure of a simple one-period model of a financial market. We consider a finite number of assets. Their initial prices at time t = 0 are known, their future prices at time t = 1 are described as random variables on some probability space. Trading takes place at time t = 0. Already in this simple model, some basic principles of mathematical finance appear very clearly. In Section 1.2, we single out those models which satisfy a condition of market efficiency: There are no trading opportunities which yield a profit without any downside risk.

  • Interest income is the most important source of revenue for most of the banks. The aim of this paper is to assess the impact of dierent interest rate scenarios on the banks' interest income. As we do not know the interest rate sensitivity of real banks, we construct for each bank a portfolio with a similar composition of its assets and liabilities, called 'tracking bank'. We evaluate the eect of 260 historical interest rate shocks on the tracking banks of German savings banks and cooperative banks.

  • I have already pointed out that there are two basic sets of capitalization tools: (1) direct capitalization and (2) yield analysis. Tool Kit #2 Direct Capitalization focuses on the income stream from a property, without taking into account appreciation in value, paying down of mortgages, or ultimate value on disposition.   • Revenue insurance accounts for more than half of all crop insurance policies (Figure 2). It began in 1997 as a buy-up option on a pilot basis for major crops. By 2003, acreage under revenue- based insurance exceeded acreage covered by APH policies. Revenue insurance combines the production guarantee component of crop insurance with a price guarantee to create a target revenue guarantee. Under revenue insurance programs, participating producers are assigned a target level of revenue based on market prices for the commodity and the producer’s yield history.
