In this thesis, the rolling contact wear of 52100 bearing steel and Over-aged Magnesia-Partially-Stabilised Zirconia (OA-Mg-PSZ) ceramic are examined using a newly developed rolling contact wear test rig. The new wear test rig simulates the system geometry of an un-lubricated hybrid (ceramic and steel) ball bearing. The new wear test rig is versatile in that it allows low cost samples to be utilised resulting in a larger number of samples that can be tested.

In the multi-dimensional model of data warehouses, data drawn from multiple sources is organized into fact tables and dimension tables. Data cubes pre-compute the aggregations of measurements along combinations of dimensions to speed up the processing of Online Analytical Processing (OLAP) queries. When the underlying fact tables or dimension tables change over time, data cubes need to be incrementally maintained to reflect these changes. In this thesis, we study the problem of incrementally maintaining data cubes under slowly changing dimensions.

This paper delves into the realms of tragedy, memory and representation. Drawing upon the phenomenon of the Phantom Limb and extending it towards a theory of Phantom Bodies, various artworks - literary, theatrical and visual - are examined. After the conflagration of the terrorist attack, how are these absences grieved over and remembered through artistic representation? The essay examines this question by positioning itself amongst the scarred landscapes of post-September 11 New York and suicide bombings in Israel (2000-2006).

Suburbs in Melbourne present to us a unique context with which a new approach towards urban form can be devised using the existing conditions and opportunities found with infrastructural developments. This thesis contains the investigations on the various 'pathologies' of the urban fabric specifically on the potential use of 'Spaces Left-Over After Planning' as by-product to infrastructural development in relation to the reinvigoration of Melbourne suburbs under the influence of current and future metropolitan growth pressures.

In this thesis, focus on the wireless links between devices equipped by deployed operating personnel and intermediary access point infrastructure. We use multi-radio (MR) platforms, wireless devices with multiple and diverse transceiver technologies, to produce robust and reliable links through adaptive control of available transceivers. Primarily, we study the application of intelligent control techniques, namely reinforcement learning (RL), for adaptive control over diverse transceivers to achieve the desired robustness and reliability under dynamic environmental conditions.

This thesis develops understanding of the appropriation of information technology (IT) artefacts over time. Perceptions that the whole lifecycle of IT use, from pre-use, then initial use through to adaptive and stabilised use is not well understood were evaluated and supported in the initial part of the study. A generic lifecycle model of use, the model of technology appropriation (MTA), was chosen as the foundational theory for this thesis because it covers the entire IT use lifecycle, and it can be contextualised for different technologies, and user cohorts.

The organisation of the thesis will follow a seven-chapter structure. The researcher will use the term thesis as used by Perry (1994) to describe the entire work, while the related terms research and study will be used interchangeably when referring to the research undertaken in the thesis. This thesis could make a significant contribution to the social control literature by addressing these shortcomings and identifying and examining the formal and informal mechanisms used conjointly by the government and its agencies to control social security expenditures and also social outcomes.

This thesis bridges a gap in extant research by examining key factors that play a role in behavioral grocery shopping routines following minor and major disruptions. The present research involves two interrelated investigations incorporating mixed methodologies (Cresswell, 2003). The primary research objectives of the present thesis are: To model how consumer routines are established and maintained over time (i.e., model of routinization); and to investigate the impact of no, minor, and major disruptions on routinized grocery shopping behavior.
