  • The use of copper and its alloys by humans goes back thousands of years. Probably copper is the most ancient metal extracted and processed by mankind. With good strength and ductility, ease of processing and good availability, copper has been for millennia an excellent material for creating objects, jewelry and tools of daily use or components with high technological content.

  • To date, parsers have made limited use of semantic information, but there is evidence to suggest that semantic features can enhance parse disambiguation. This paper shows that semantic classes help to obtain significant improvement in both parsing and PP attachment tasks. We devise a gold-standard sense- and parse tree-annotated dataset based on the intersection of the Penn Treebank and SemCor, and experiment with different approaches to both semantic representation and disambiguation. For the Bikel parser, we achieved a maximal error reduction rate over the baseline parser of 6.

  • Creating large amounts of annotated data to train statistical PCFG parsers is expensive, and the performance of such parsers declines when training and test data are taken from different domains. In this paper we use selftraining in order to improve the quality of a parser and to adapt it to a different domain, using only small amounts of manually annotated seed data. We report significant improvement both when the seed and test data are in the same domain and in the outof-domain adaptation scenario. ...

  • This paper demonstrates that the use of ensemble methods and carefully calibrating the decision threshold can significantly improve the performance of machine learning methods for morphological word decomposition. We employ two algorithms which come from a family of generative probabilistic models. The models consider segment boundaries as hidden variables and include probabilities for letter transitions within segments. The advantage of this model family is that it can learn from small datasets and easily generalises to larger datasets. ...

  • This paper describes how external resources can be used to improve parser performance for heavily lexicalised grammars, looking at both robustness and efficiency. In terms of robustness, we try using different types of external data to increase lexical coverage, and find that simple POS tags have the most effect, increasing coverage on unseen data by up to 45%. We also show that filtering lexical items in a supertagging manner is very effective in increasing efficiency.

  • Word and n-gram posterior probabilities estimated on N-best hypotheses have been used to improve the performance of statistical machine translation (SMT) in a rescoring framework. In this paper, we extend the idea to estimate the posterior probabilities on N-best hypotheses for translation phrase-pairs, target language n-grams, and source word reorderings. The SMT system is self-enhanced with the posterior knowledge learned from Nbest hypotheses in a re-decoding framework.

  • The results demonstrated that the sensors based on WO3/ZnO structures possessed larger response, better selectivity, faster response/recovery than the sensor based on pure ZnO MRs. Especially, the gas sensing property of the WO3/ZnO composite based sensor with weight ratio of 1:1 was superior to others. However, the operating temperature is quite high (400 C). The mechanism of gas sensing was also studied.

  • The structure and morphology of synthesized materials were examined by X–ray diffraction, Scanning electronic microscopy and Raman vibrational micro–spectroscopy. The electrochemical performances of doped materials were studied in Swagelok–type cell using LiPF6/EC–DMC (1:1) as electrolyte. LiFe1–xNixPO4 was shown to exhibit homogenous particles size of 50 ÷ 150 nm. The doped materials were titrated to quantify iron and nickel contents in samples. As anticipated, the electrochemical performances of LiFe1–xNixPO4were significantly enhanced compared to those of undoped LiFePO4.

  • With the aim to enhance photocatalytic properties and anti-Ecoli bacteria abilities of TiO2 thin films; hierarchical heterogeneous nanostructured ZnO/TiO2 (HNs) films were deposited by DC magnetron sputtering. The obtained results showed that both the photocatalytic performance and anti - Ecoli bacteria ability of HNs films exhibited enhancement in comparison with standard TiO2 films. This enhancement was explained due to the reduction of the electron - hole recombination and the red shift of absorption edge of the HNs films.

  • As internetworks grew in scale and diversity in the early 1990s, new routing protocols were needed. Cisco developed Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (IGRP) primarily to address many of the limitations of IGRP and RIP. As WANs were growing, so was the need for a routing protocol that would use efficient address space on WAN links, as well as the LAN networks. OSPF was available, but the CPU-intensive tasks that it had to perform often overloaded the small processors of many edge or remote routers of that time. The configuration was also more complex than that of RIP or IGRP.
