  • Polylactic acid is one of the most popular bioplastics used in recent years and it is often mixed with other polymers or chemicals to form polymer blend because polylactic acid is able to accelerate biodegradation of polymer blends. This paper presents some results of study on polymer blend based on polylactic acid (PLA) and ethylene-co-vinylacetate copolymer (EVA).

  • A complete and permanent hydrophilic modification of poly (ethyleneterephthalate) (PET) films is achieved by argon-plasma irradiation, subsequently grafting acrylic acid (AA) in vapor phase onto their surface. Both Ar plasma irradiation alone and post grafting AA rendered a complete hydrophilicity to PET surfaces. However, the hydrophilicity of the PET surface, only treated with the Ar plasma, is not permanent. In contrast, PET films, irradiated by the Ar plasma, exposed to air, and subsequently grafted with AA monomer, are permanently hydrophilic.

  • Polyethylene-starch blend polymer has already found to be a potential candidate to replace non-degradable plastic in packaging [7]. However, the degradation of that polymer in natural ambience (soil burial test) needs to be further evaluated. The purpose of this study is to investigate the degradability of PE-starch blend polymer in soil and in liquid medium. The soil is added starch degrading bacteria isolated from natural soil.

  • Thus, it remedies soil degradation, desertification, and deforestation. Jatropha is native of tropical America, but now flourish in many parts of the tropics and sub-tropics in Africa/Asia. Various parts of the plant are of medicinal(both human and veterinary purposes) value for instance, and are under intensive scientific investigation. The oil is a strong purgative, widely employed as an antiseptic for cough, skin diseases, and a pain reliever from rheumatism. Jatropha latex can heal wounds and also has antimicrobial properties (Openshaw, 2000).

  • In a world where the population is expected to rise to 10 billion by the turn of the century, accelerating urbanisation and the increasing the demand for food and energy; taking action to secure sufficient water of acceptable quality for humans and nature is as urgent as ever. Climate change is projected to aggravate water stress in many regions, especially where water is already scarce and where the demand for water is growing rapidly. Increased frequency of floods is also projected.

  • In films that catered to Indian migrants, there was a clear emphasis on superiority of Indianness over western culture. The Indian was shown to be pure whereas the western was the morally degraded. This duality was established through the conduct of female characters like Kajol in Dilwali Dulhaniya Le Jayenge (DDLJ) – 1995, Pardes (1997) and Aa Ab Laut Chalen (1999). The western woman in these films was shown to be morally degraded and inferior to the Indian woman, whom the hero eventually chose. The migrant Indians in these films decided...

  • The use of scientific techniques in materials conservation has notably expanded in recent decades. There is much interest in identifying the materials used in culturally important objects. Of great importance is a clear understanding of the state and mechanisms of degradation of objects susceptible to deterioration with time and exposure to environmental factors. An understanding of the state of materials at a molecular level can provide valuable information for conservators, enabling them to decide on a conservation procedure....
