Chromatin is a highly dynamic structure that plays an essential role in regulating all nuclear processes that utilize the DNA template including DNA repair, replication, transcription and recombination. Thus, the mechanisms by which chromatin structures are assembled and modified are questions of broad interest. This minireview will focus on two groups of proteins: (a) histone chaperones and (b) ATPdependent chromatin remodeling machines, that co-operate to assemble DNA and histone proteins into chromatin....

Báo cáo Y học: Holliday junction binding and processing by the RuvA protein of Mycoplasma pneumoniae
The RuvA, RuvB andRuvCproteins ofEscherichia coliact together to process Holliday junctions formed during recombination and DNA repair. RuvA has a well-de®ned DNA binding surface that is sculptured speci®cally to accommodate a Holliday junction and allow subsequent loading of RuvB and RuvC. A negatively charged pin pro-jecting from the centre limits binding of linear duplexDNA. The amino-acid sequences forming the pin are highly con-served.

Folate is an essential vitamin involved in a number of biological processes. High affinity folate binding proteins (FBPs) exist both as glycosylphospha-tidylinositol-linked, membrane associated folate binding proteins and as soluble FBPs in plasma and some secretory fluids such as milk, saliva and semen. The function and significance of FBPs are unresolved, however, it has been suggested that they may facilitate folate uptake, e.g. during suck-ling.

Rio1 is the founding member of the RIO family of atypical serine kinases that are universally present in all organisms from archaea to mammals. Activity of Rio1 was shown to be absolutely essential inSaccharomyces cerevisiaefor the processing of 18S ribosomal RNA, as well as for proper cell cycle progression and chromosome maintenance. We determined high-resolution crystal structures ofArchaeoglobus fulgidusRio1 in the presence and absence of bound nucleotides.

The highly conserved, atypical RIO serine protein kinases are found in all organisms, from archaea to man. In yeast, the kinase activity of Rio2 is necessary for the final processing step of maturing the 18S ribosomal rRNA. We have previously shown that the Rio2 protein from Archaeo-globus fulgidus contains both a small kinase domain and an N-terminal winged helix domain.

In the biomineralization processes, proteins are thought to control the polymorphism and morphology of the crystals by forming complexes of structural and mineral-associated proteins. To identify such proteins, we have searched for proteins that may form high-molecular-weight (HMW) aggregates in the matrix of fish otoliths that have aragonite and vaterite as their crystal polymorphs.

THE EFFECTS OF CUSTOMER LOYALITY ON PROFITABILLITY Chapter Three turns to a wholly different, but not unrelated, topic, the role of admissions exam scores in the identification of well-prepared students in the college admissions process. The case for using such exams is often made with validity studies, which estimate the correlation between test scores and eventual collegiate grades, both with and without controls for high school grade point average. I argue that there are two fundamental problems with these studies as they are often carried out.

SERVICE PROCESS KAIZEN: ADOPTING PROCESS STABILIZATION METHODS TO CONTROL SERVICE WORK FLOW AND TO IMPROVE CUSTOMER SERVICE I drop MSAs that are not in SAT states or where available completion rate data cover less than two thirds of public enrollment. This leaves a sample of 931 districts from 50 MSAs. In spite of the serious limitations in the CCD data, the pattern of results in Panel D is quite similar to that in Panel C. Again, the student quality index is a strong predictor of completion rates, but its coefficient is (insignificantly) smaller in high-choice than in low-choice MSAs....

DNA methylation affects important developmental processes in both plants and animals. The process of methylation of cytosines at C-5 is catalysed by DNA methyltransferases (MTases), which are highly conserved, both struc-turally and functionally, in eukaryotes. In this study, we identified and characterized cytosine DNA MTase genes that are activated with the onset of reproductive development in rice.

Hyaluronan, a ubiquitous high-molecular-mass glycinoglycan on cell surfaces and in extracellular matrices, has a number of specific signaling functions in cell–cell communication. Changes in its content, molecular mass and turnover rate are crucial for cell proliferation, migration and apoptosis, processes that control tissue remodeling during embryonic devel-opment, inflammation, injury and cancer.

Mast cells express the high-affinity receptor for IgE (FceRI) and are key players in type I hypersensitivity reactions. They are critically involved in the development of allergic rhinitis, allergic asthma and systemic anaphy-laxis, however, they also regulate normal physiological processes that link innate and adaptive immune responses.

Thyrotoxicosis is the clinical syndrome that results when tissues are exposed to high levels of circulating thyroid hormones. It results in a generalized acceleration of metabolic processes. - Hyperthyroidism: hyperactivity of the thyroid gland. Table 1. Conditions Associated with Thyrotoxicosis. 1.
