  • Population growth and inter-regional migration have been and will be significant drivers for the Turkish real estate markets. The last census counted a population of roughly 70.6 m at the end of 2007, significantly less than previously forecast from the census 2000 data. Nevertheless, the population is growing at a fast pace com- pared to most industrialised countries. In addition, two further trends are noteworthy. • Respondents were also asked about the importance of religion for them and about their religious practices. Results are shown in Table 10 for Buddhists and Moslems. Given the small number of Moslems in the sample, caution is appropriate when interpreting the results. Clearly religion is very important for a substantial majority of Cambodian elders. Three fourths of Buddhists and over 90% of Moslems in our sample indicated that religion was very important for them. This varied very little across gender and residence.

  • Mistreatment of older people has been identified in facilities for continuing care (such as nursing homes, residential care, hospitals and day care facilities) in almost every country where such institutions exist. Various people may be responsible for the abuse: a paid member of the staff, another resident, a voluntary visitor, or relatives or friends. An abusive or neglectful relationship between the older person and their caregiver at home may not necessarily end once the older person has entered institutional care; the abuse may sometimes continue in a new setting.
