  • Consumer concerns on food safety and society awareness of chemical contaminants in the environment have increased in the past few years. As a consequence, more restrictions in the use of chemical products have been imposed at national and international levels. Pesticides are widely used for the control of weeds, diseases, and pests of cultivated plants all over the world, mainly since after Second World War, with the discovery of some organic compounds with good insecticide or herbicide activity. At present, around 2.

  • The 5¢ flanking region of the bile salt export pump (Bsep) gene was systematically analysed to provide the basis for understanding the mechanisms which regulate Bsep transcription. In addition substrates and drugs were investigated for their ability to alter Bsep promoter activity. Bsep promoter function was restricted to hepatocyte derived HepG2 cells. The 5¢ deletional analysis revealed a biphasic shape of reporter gene activities, indicating a suppressive element between nucleotides )800 and )512. ...

  • The results above have several important implications for the international finance and diversification literature. First, while our analysis of interna- tional stock return comovements reveals significant weaknesses of theHeston– Rouwenhorst model, when viewed as a factor model, we also show that the Heston–Rouwenhorst empirical results regarding the primacy of country fac- tors stand the test of time.

  • This paper presents a predicate-argument structure analysis that simultaneously conducts zero-anaphora resolution. By adding noun phrases as candidate arguments that are not only in the sentence of the target predicate but also outside of the sentence, our analyzer identifies arguments regardless of whether they appear in the sentence or not. Because we adopt discriminative models based on maximum entropy for argument identification, we can easily add new features. We add language model scores as well as contextual features.

  • In this chapter, we present a general approach to the analysis of coefficients of generating functions that is not restricted to polar singularities and extends to a large class of functions that have moderate growth or decay at their dominant singularities. This chapter presents the following content: Prelude, standard function scale, singularity analysis, schemas and transfer theorems.

  • This chapter advocates six principles that characterize various approaches and techniques for analysis and testing: sensitivity, redundancy, restriction, partition, visibility, and feedback. Some of these principles, such as partition, visibility, and feedback, are quite general in engineering.

  • This paper deals with the problem of asymptotic stability for a class of switched nonlineardiscrete systems with time-varying delay. The time-varying delay is assumed to be belong to a given interval in which the lower bound of delay is not restricted to zero. A linear matrix inequality (LMI) approach to asymptotic stability of the system is presented. Based on the Lyapunov functional, delay-depenent criteria for the asymptotic stability of the system are established via linear matrix inequalities.

  • In this study, we designed two PCR primers to amplify the region containing rs6548238. The AvaI restriction enzyme was selected to detect the SNP polymorphism. Sequencing the resulting bands validated the RFLP method. In conclusion, RFLP method is simple, sensitive and cost effective for genotyping of the TMEM18 rs6548238 polymorphism; thus, this method is most convenient for SNP analysis in large-size samples from Vietnamese population.

  • To separate the unknown Streptomyces strains isolated from soil samples, the interspacer regions of 16S-23S rDNA of 14 isolates were amplified with PCR (polymerase chain reaction) and digested with three restriction endonucleases, namely, Bsp143I, HaeIII and MnlI. The restriction patterns were used for RFLP (restriction fragment length polymorphism) analysis.

  • The software techniques provide burst of unrealistic data for limited time, restricting the scope of performance measurement and evaluation. Hardware data generation systems can be both expensive and inflexible. There is a need for more realistic DNS data traffic which can be used for flexible and cost effective performance measurement over a longer period for thorough evaluation.

  • This paper deals with the Safety Analysis for CANDU® 6 nuclear reactors as affected by main Heat Transport System (HTS) aging. Operational and aging related changes of the HTS throughout its lifetime may lead to restrictions in certain safety system settings and hence some restriction in performance under certain conditions. A step in confirming safe reactor operation is the tracking of relevant data and their corresponding interpretation by the use of appropriate thermal-hydraulic analytic models.

  • This chapter introduces basic concepts needed for the study and description of morphologically complex words. Since this is a book about the particular branch of morphology called word- formation, we will first take a look at the notion of ‘word’. We will then turn to a first analysis of the kinds of phenomena that fall into the domain of word-formation, before we finally discuss how word-formation can be distinguished from the other sub-branch of morphology, inflection.

  • ost of the problems of analyzing survey data have been reasonably well handled, except those revolving around the existence of interaction effects. Indeed, increased efficiency in handling multivariate analyses even with non-numerical variables, has been achieved largely by assuming additivity. An approach to survey data is proposed which imposes no restrictions on interaction effects, focuses on importance in reducing predictive error, operates sequentially, and is independent of the extent of linearity in the classifications or the order in which the explanatory factors are introduced...

  • The empirical relationship between capital controls and the financial development of credit and equity markets is examined. We extend the literature on this subject along a number of dimensions.Specifically, we (1) investigate a substantially broader set of proxy measures of financial development; (2) create and utilize a new index based on the IMF measures of exchange restrictions that incorporates a measure of the intensity of capital controls; and (3) extend the previous literature by systematically examining the implications of institutional (legal) factors.
