  • Meta-theoretical results on the decidability, generatire capacity, and recognition complexity o~ several syntactic theories are surveyed These include context-free , lexical func-computer o r a parallel array of neurons. These results over whole classes of machines are very difficult to obtain, and none el any significance exist for parsiD.g problems. Restricting ourselves to a specific machine model and an algorithm M for j', we can ask about the cost. (e.g time or space) e(z) of executing M on a specific input z. ...

  • Dominance links were introduced in grammars to model long distance scrambling phenomena, motivating the definition of multiset-valued linear indexed grammars (MLIGs) by Rambow (1994b), and inspiring quite a few recent formalisms. It turns out that MLIGs have since been rediscovered and reused in a variety of contexts, and that the complexity of their emptiness problem has become the key to several open questions in computer science. We survey complexity results and open issues on MLIGs and related formalisms, and provide new complexity bounds for some linguistically motivated restrictions.

  • During the last decades, global organizations and women’s rights advocates have called on governments to recognise the multiple determinants of women’s health, and there has been a growing consensus about the need to integrate and widen health services to respond to a broad variety of problems affecting them.

  • Variation in precipitation will also affect the salinity levels of surface water. Increased rainfall or runoff will likely reduce salinity levels, especially in winter, while lower precipitation levels and higher temperatures during summertime could increase salinity levels (Jacobs et al. 2001). As a result, semi- arid regions that suffer from decreasing runoff will be greatly impacted by salinization (Jacobs et al. 2001).

  • The proof of the theorem is based on a reduction from the vertex-cover problem. The theorem shows that even in a very restricted case, the problem is intractable. Our setting is especially simple because it does not even consider non-trivial queries over the data. It is important to note that the NP-hardness is in the size of the network. This theorem should not dampen our enthusiasm regarding the data placement problem—quite the contrary.

  • Descriptive characteristics of both cohorts and results of the follow up procedure are presented in Table 1. The Saarland cohort was approximately half the size of the cohort in NRW. Females were slightly overrepresented in both cohorts. The arrival period for entering the cohort was four years longer for the Saarland cohort. The NRW study population was restricted by age at migration of 15 years or older, whereas the Saarland cohort had no age restriction. Thus, the Saarland cohort was on average younger.

  • In this paper, we study the initial-boundary value problem for a system of nonlinear viscoelastic Petrovsky equations. Introducing suitable perturbed energy functionals and using the potential well method we prove uniform decay of solution energy under some restrictions on the initial data and the relaxation functions. Moreover, we establish a growth result for certain solutions with positive initial energy.

  • Several online RSS service providers (essentially, Web- based RSS readers) have proposed alternative solu- tions [2, 3]. In these “outsourced aggregation” scenar- ios, a centralized service provides a remote procedure interface which end-user applications may be built upon (or refactored to use). Such an application would store all its state—the set of subscribed feeds, the set of “old” and “new” entries—on the central server. It would then poll only this server to receive all updated data.

  • BOUNDARY VALUE PROBLEMS FOR THE 2ND-ORDER SEIBERG-WITTEN EQUATIONS CELSO MELCHIADES DORIA Received 8 June 2004 It is shown that the nonhomogeneous Dirichlet and Neuman problems for the 2nd-order Seiberg-Witten equation on a compact 4-manifold X admit a regular solution once the nonhomogeneous Palais-Smale condition is satisfied. The approach consists in applying the elliptic techniques to the variational setting of the Seiberg-Witten equation. The gauge invariance of the functional allows to restrict the problem to the Coulomb subspace C of configuration space.
