We have compared the site-by-siteN-glycosylation status of human lactoferrin (Lf) produced in maize, a monocotyle-don, and in tobacco, usedas amodel dicotyledon.Maizeand tobacco plants were stably transformed and recombinant Lf was purified from both seeds and leaves. N-glycopeptides were generated by trypsin digestion of recombinant Lf and purified by reverse-phase HPLC. The N-glycosylation pat-tern of each site was determined by mass spectrometry. Our results indicated that the N-glycosylation patterns of recombinant Lf produced in maize and tobacco share common structural features....

A rat liver nuclear insoluble protein fraction was analyzed to investigate candidate proteins participating in nuclear architecture formation. Proteins were subjected to two-dimensional separation by reversed-phase HPLC in 60% formic acid and SDS⁄PAGE. The method produced good resolution of insoluble proteins. One hundred and thirty-eight proteins were separ-ated, and 28 of these were identified.

Bermuda grass pollen (BGP) contains a very complex mixture of allergens, but only a few have been characterized. One of the allergens, with an apparent molecular mass of 21 kDa, has been shown to bind serum IgE from 29% of patients with BGP allergy. A combination of chromato-graphic techniques (ion exchange and reverse phase HPLC) was used to purify the 21 kDa allergen.
