  • Two genes (CM-AAT1 and CM-AAT2) with strong sequence homology (87% identity at the protein level) putatively involved in the formation of aroma volatile esters have been isolated from Charentais melon fruit. They belong to a large and highly divergent family of multifunctional plant acyl-transferases and show at most 21% identity to the only other fruit acyl-transferase characterized so far in strawberry. RT-PCR studies indicated that both genes were specifically expressed in fruit at increasing rates in the early and mid phases of ripening.

  • The effects of two irrigation practices (RDI-I and RDI-II) and two bud load treatments on the yield and quality of the Kalecik Karası red wine grape variety were studied. The midday leaf water potential thresholds were used for irrigation timing, and those values were set as –10 bars until flowering, –13 bars between the berry set–veraison and the veraison–ripening periods, and –12 bars after harvest for both irrigation treatments.

  • Peaches are consumed worldwide and have great market demand. Compared to apricots, the volatiles defining the typical peach aroma are still poorly analytically characterized. The aim of our study was to determine the impact of the stage of ripening, sample storage conditions, and type of fiber coating and extraction glassware on peach aroma compounds.

  • The creation of quick jobs, as opposed to training, often results in the creation of too many bricklayers, often of not very good caliber. So that when the fund goes, people are no more able to get a good job than before. Sometimes there is a contradiction between building quality projects and using local labor, because when asked, municipalities often want quality projects. And yet bilateral and multilateral agencies say they want local labor to be employed. Finally, there are some environmental issues.

  • We build a two-country general equilibrium model of exchange rates that features two roles for nontraded goods: as ¯nal consumption and as an input into the production of ¯nal tradable goods (retail services). In addition to retail services, ¯nal tradable goods require the use of local and imported intermediate traded inputs. Intermediate traded goods and nontraded goods are produced using local labor and capital services. Thus, our model has an input-output structure (as in Obstfeld, 2001), where the output of some sectors is used as an input to the production of ¯nal goods.

The authors of the last three chapters argue that increasing the scale of adoption and the impact of agroforestry innovations requires actions that are based on an understanding of the dynamics of adoption and the critical factors that determine whether farmers accept, do not accept, or partially accept, innovations. • Investors favour real assets as a hedge against rising inflation rates. Whereas, in an environment of higher inflation, financial assets such as bonds lose value in real terms, the real prices of real assets remain stable or increase. During the last 15 years, inflation rates in the industrialised countries have fluctuated at moderate levels of up to 3% p.a. (see Fig. 11), although in some countries they have been considerably less. In such an environment, investment in real assets with a view to inflation protection typically offers hardly any advantages.
