Scientific research capacity

These two activities have an organic relationship, complement each other and are the two key factors to assess the quality of an educational institution. The issue of improving scientific research capacity is mentioned by many people and finding their own solutions suitable to their organizations. In the end, they all think that improving scientific research capacity is very necessary in the context of a constantly developing society.

Human serum albumin (HSA) is best known for its extraordinary ligand binding capacity. HSA has a high affinity for heme and is responsible for the transport of medium and long chain fatty acids. Here, we report myri-state binding to the N and B conformational states of Mn(III)heme–HSA (i.e. at pH 7.0 and 10.0, respectively) as investigated by optical absorbance and NMR spectroscopy. At pH 7.0, Mn(III)heme binds to HSA with lower affinity than Fe(III)heme, and displays a water molecule coordinated to the metal....

Wheat flavoneO-methyltransferase catalyzes three sequential methylations of the flavone tricetin. Like other flavonoidO-methyltransferases, the pro-tein is a homodimer. We demonstrate, using analytical ultracentrifugation, that perchlorate dissociates the dimer into monomers. The resulting mono-mers retain all their catalytic capacity, including the ability to catalyze the three successive methylations.

2-Cys peroxiredoxins are peroxidases devoid of prosthetic groups that mediate in the defence against oxidative stress and the peroxide activation of signaling pathways. This dual capacity relies on the high reactivity of the conserved peroxidatic and resolving cysteines, whose modification embraces not only the usual thiol–disulfide exchange but also higher oxida-tion states of the sulfur atom.

The RNA world hypothesis assumes that life arose from ancestral RNA molecules, which stored genetic information and catalyzed chemical reac-tions. Although RNA catalysis was believed to be restricted to phosphate chemistry, it is now established that the RNA has much wider catalytic capacities.

Human serum albumin (HSA) is known for its exceptional ligand-binding capacity; indeed, its modular domain organization provides a variety of ligand-binding sites. Its flexible modular structure involves more than the immediate vicinity of the binding site(s), affecting the ligand-binding prop-erties of the whole protein.

All cells, from prokaryotes to vertebrates, synthesize enormous amounts of rRNA to produce 1–2 million ribosomes per cell cycle, which are required to maintain the protein synthesis capacity of the daughter cells. In recent years, considerable progress has been made in the elucidation of the basic principles of transcriptional regulation and the pathways that adapt cellular rRNA synthesis to metabolic activity, a process that is essential for under

The mechanism of age-related decrease of angiogenic potential in myocardium is still unclear. Cardiac microvascular endothelial cells (CMECs) play a key role in cardiac angiogenesis. In this study, using the CMECs which are isolated from young and old hearts, we found that the migration and proliferation capacity of old CMECs were diminished.

Starch synthase III from Arabidopsis thaliana contains an N-terminal region, including three in-tandem starch-binding domains, followed by a C-terminal catalytic domain. We have reported previously that starch-bind-ing domains may be involved in the regulation of starch synthase III func-tion.

Let ϕ : C → C be a bilipschitz map. We prove that if E ⊂ C is compact, and γ(E), α(E) stand for its analytic and continuous analytic capacity respectively, then C −1 γ(E) ≤ γ(ϕ(E)) ≤ Cγ(E) and C −1 α(E) ≤ α(ϕ(E)) ≤ Cα(E), where C depends only on the bilipschitz constant of ϕ. Further, we show that if µ is a Radon measure on C and the Cauchy transform is bounded on L2 (µ), then the Cauchy transform is also bounded on L2 (ϕ µ), where ϕ µ is the image measure of µ by...
