  • Sodium chloride (NaCl) treatments were conducted on strawberry plants (Fragaria x ananassa cvs. Camarosa and Chandler) grown under greenhouse conditions. Modified Hoagland solution (one-third strength) containing 0 (control), 8.5, 17.0 and 34.0 mM NaCl was applied to the plants for 6 months.

  • This work presents the results of adding H2O2 into a modified aerated biofilter (ABF) for treatment of refractory organic constituents in wastewater. The activated sludge, taken from wastewater treatment system of Hue Beer Company, was long-time cultured in laboratory with beef extract-peptone solution. The synthetic wastewater was prepared from solutions of glucose, ammonium acetate, sodium bicarbonate, potassium dihydrogen phosphate, sodium chloride, potassium chloride, calcium chloride and magnesium sulphate.

  • The salt stress tolerance of 19 hybrid maize (Zea mays L.) varieties was tested in nutrient solution during the early growth stage under controlled environmental conditions. For the salt stress treatment, sodium chloride (NaCl) was applied to nutrient solution at a concentration of 250 mM for 6 days before the harvest.

  • The response of mustard (Brassica juncea (L.) Czern & Coss cv. Varuna) to presowing seed treatment with sodium chloride (NaCl) was investigated. The plants raised from treated seeds were sprayed with water or 10-6 M GA3 at the 30- day stage. The seeds imbibed in 1 or 10 mM of NaCl resulted in a decrease in dry mass, leaf chlorophyll content.

  • For certain difficult waters, whole house reverse osmosis is sometimes not only the best solution, it is virtually the only solution. The most common application for large, point-of-entry reverse osmosis is water with high salt content. Reverse osmosis effectively removes sodium, chloride, fluoride and other difficult-to-treat contaminants.

  • Some of the suggestions in this book may be helpful or at least have a placebo effect. Beware of the many recipes that include kerosene (coal oil), turpentine, ammonium chloride, lead, lye (sodium hydroxide), strychnine, arsenic, mercury, creosote, sodium phosphate, opium, cocaine and other illegal, poisonous or corrosive items. Many recipes do not specify if it is to be taken internally or topically (on the skin). There is an extreme preoccupation with poultices (applied to the skin, 324 references) and "keeping the bowels open" (1498 references, including related terms)....

  • The effects of medium and sterilization on the mature embryo culture of barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) were studied. Among the sterilization methods studied, sodium hypochlorite sterilization followed by treatment of antibiotic solution and sterilization HgCl2 application was found to be more effective than the other methods. However, no statistically significant negative effect of HgCl2 on the plantlet development from embryos was observed.
