Ebook "Glucosinolates" introduces the reader to the sulfur-containing glucosinolates (S-glucosides), a class of secondary metabolites of almost all plants of the order Capparales, in particular in the family Brassicaceae (e.g. broccoli and other cabbages), derived from glucose and an amino acid. The book illustrates the natural variety of glucosinolate structures, mainly derived from the precursor amino acid.

Objective of the present study was to sequence chloroplast genomes of two cultivars of broccoli: Marathon and Green sprout. The sequencing was done by next generation sequencing. The analysis was performed using Velvet, Geneious, GeSeq, tRNAscan-SE, ARAGORN, OrganellarGenomeDRAW, IRscope and REPuter. The genomes of both cultivars showed highly similar quadripartite structure of 153,365 bp. The LSC (83,136 bp) and SSC (17,835 bp) regions were separated by a pair of IR (26,197 bp) region.

This study was conducted to determine the effects of using EAS to treat broccoli seeds on seed germination rate and growth of sprouts. The EAS was generated from KCl solution, which was then diluted with distilled water at 1.0, 0.9, 0.8, 0.7, 0.6, 0.5, 0.4, 0.3, 0.2 and 0.1 strengths of the source EAS.

Boron is concerned with the precipitation of excess cation, buffer action, maintenance of conducting tissues and help in absorption of nitrogen. Its primary role is concerned with metabolism both with its uptake and efficient use in plants. Boron also affect the cambial and phloem tissues of storage root or stem apical meristems and leaves, vascular cambia of fruits and other organs which are capable of meristematic activities (Singh, 1991).

3,3′-diindolylmethane (DIM) is an acid-catalyzed dimer of idole-3-carbinol (I3C), a phytochemical found in cruciferous vegetables that include broccoli, Brussels sprouts and cabbage. DIM is an aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR) ligand and a potential anticancer agent, namely for the treatment of breast cancer. It is also advertised as a compound that regulates sex hormone homeostasis.

The experiment consisted of sixteen treatment combination including four NAA (control, NAA @ 80, NAA @ 120 and NAA @ 180 ppm) and four GA3 levels (control, GA3 @ 25, GA3 @ 50 and GA3 @ 75 ppm) were undertaken randomized block design (RBD) with three replications at Horticulture Farm S.K.N College of Agriculture, Jobner (Jaipur) during rabi 2018-19. The result of study clearly indicated that application of NAA @ 180 ppm to the sprouting broccoli significantly increased the plant height (58.32 cm), number of leaves (25.85), leaf area (1255.35 cm2 ), chlorophyll content in leaves (2.

The cole crops like cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli and brussel sprouts etc. are most important vegetables consumed all over the world, among them cabbage and cauliflower are economically vegetables in India. Most of the cruciferous vegetables are vulnerable to many insect pests. The Diamondback moth (DBM), Plutella xylostella Lineaus is the most serious pest in causing economic loss. DBM developed resistant to almost all the synthetic insecticides. Here we collected DBM population from Field of Rattihalli, Haveri district of the state Karnataka, India and reared for one generation.

An experiment was conducted to determine the suitable combination of lime and boron during winter season months under terai region of West Bengal. The experiments were carried out at Instructional Farm, UBKV, Pundibari, Coochbehar during 2015-16. The experiment consisted of two levels of lime (0 and 450 kg/ha) and six levels of Boron (0kg/ha, 7.5 kg/ha, 15 kg/ha, 22.5 kg/ha, 30 kg/ha and 37.5 kg/ha).

Sulphur compounds in sulphur rich food have been shown to significantly reduce the risk of cancer development. One such compound is sulforaphane (SF), a cancer chemopreventive agent identified in broccoli (F. cruciferae). In this study, SF content was assessed in extracts of several crucifer vegetables including broccoli, brussels sprout, green cabbage, red cabbage, Chinese kale and turnip, in parallel with anticancer and antioxidant activity.

As a result, the isothiocyanate (ITC) shows potential antioxidant activity via HAT mechanism. The most potential antioxidant is 3-isothiocyanato pro-1-en (3ITCP) with BDE(C−H) of 72.9 kcal/mol. The SET mechanism is not dominant in case of the studied ITCs. Moreover, the radicals formed H• removal had more reactive and less stable than the intial neutral compounds with lower IE, higher EA and ω.
