(BQ) This book e xplains how an econometrics computer package, Stata, can be used to perform regression analysis of cross-section and panel data. The term microeconometrics is used in the book title because the applications are to economics-related data and because the coverage includes methods such as instrumental-variables regression that are emphasized more in economics than in some other areas of applied statistics. However, many issues, models, and me thodologies discussed in this book are also relevant to other social sciences.

This paper examines the ability to capture the observed baseline temperature and precipitation (1986-2005) in the Ba River Basin from GCM outputs, RCM outputs, bias-corrected GCM outputs and bias-corrected RCM outputs by analyzing statistical indicators between historical simulations and observed data in 4 temperature and 6 rainfall stations. Bias-corrected results of both GCM and RCM have significantly smaller errors compared to the unbias-corrected ones.

This paper discusses predicting attendance at Major League Soccer events using data from the 2014 and 2015 seasons. Panel data is obtained for each team, season, and weather category. A traditional least squared dummy variable linear regression technique is used along with three machine learning algorithms – random forest, M5 prime, and extreme gradient boosting. Extreme gradient boosting provides superior results with respect to out-of-sample root mean square error statistics.

Image retrieval forms a major problem when a large database is considered. Image retrieval by content makes use of the available visual features of the image and helps in retrieving exactly the same image as that of the query image. For this purpose, the proposed work uses three different feature databases from SRM (Statistical Region Merging) algorithm and from DCT (Discrete Cosine Transform).

In recent researches, many approaches based on association rules have been proposed to improve the accuracy of recommender systems. These approaches are primarily based on Apriori data mining algorithm in order to generate the association rules and apply them to improving the recommendation results.

Wittman (1941) developed a prognosis scale for predicting outcome of electroshock therapy in schizophrenia, which consisted of 30 variables rated from social history and psychiatric examination. The predictors ranged from semi-objective matters (such as duration of psychosis) to highly interpretive judgments (such as anal-erotic vs. oral-erotic character). None of the predictor variables was psychometric.

After a few early isolated cases in the 1980s, since the mid-1990s hundreds of papers dealing with economics and finance have invaded the physics preprint server xxx.lanl.gov/cond-mat, initially devoted to condensed matter physics, and now covering subjects as different as computer science, biology or probability theory.

A lexical knowledge base is a repository of computational information about concepts intended to be generally useful in many application areas including computational linguistics, artificial intelligence, and information science. It contains information derived from machine-readable dictionaries, the full text of reference books, the results of statistical analyses of text usages, and data manually obtained from human world knowledge.

R is fast becoming the de facto standard for statistical computing and analysis in science, business, engineering, and related fields. This book examines this complex language using simple statistical examples, showing how R operates in a user-friendly context. Both students and workers in fields that require extensive statistical analysis will find this book helpful as they learn to use R for simple summary statistics, hypothesis testing, creating graphs, regression, and much more.

An enumeration of a collection of items is a complete, ordered listing of all of the items in that collection. The term is commonly used in mathematics and theoretical computer science to refer to a listing of all of the elements of a set. In statistics the term categorical variable is used rather than enumeration. The precise requirements for an enumeration (for example, whether the set must be finite, or whether the list is allowed to contain repetitions) depend on the branch of mathematics and the context in which one is working....

Forty years ago there was hardly a field called ‘behavioral sciences’. In fact, psychology largely was the behavioral sciences, with some help from group theory in sociology and decision- making in economics. Now, of course, psychology has expanded and developed in a myriad of ways, to the point where ‘behavioral sciences’ is often the more useful term. Physiological psychology has become neuroscience, covering areas not previously part of psychology. Decision-making has become decision science, involving people from economics, marketing, and other disciplines.

text is designed for an introductory probability course at the university level for sophomores, juniors, and seniors in mathematics, physical and social sciences, engineering, and computer science. It presents a thorough treatment of ideas and techniques necessary for a firm understanding of the subject. The text is also recommended for use in discrete probability courses. The material is organized so that the discrete and continuous probability discussions are presented in a separate, but parallel, manner.

The book "Applied Fracture Mechanics" presents a collection of articles on application of fracture mechanics methods to materials science, medicine, and engineering. In thirteen chapters, a wide range of topics is discussed, including strength of biological tissues, safety of nuclear reactor components, fatigue effects in pipelines, environmental effects on fracture among others. In addition, the book presents mathematical and computational methods underlying the fracture mechanics applications, and also developments in statistical modeling of fatigue.
