  • A high focusing efficiency of a multi-level Fresnel lens is desired when it is designed and manufactured. How to determine the focusing efficiency becomes a problem after the Fresnel lens is fabricated. A method to estimate the focusing efficiency of the Fresnel lens basing on its surface profile is proposed.

  • This paper presents some research results to determine the impact of grinding parameters on grinding wheel’s wear and part’s accuracy in grinding profile for ball bearing's inner ring groove. Firstly, the distribution diagrams of part’s tolerance zone and grinding wheel’s wear at different cutting conditions has been used to determine important outputs in the profile grinding process for the inner ring groove of the ball bearing.

  • Microbial biofilms are of special concern to dairy and food industry, as biofilms on raw materials or food contact surfaces represent possible sources of contamination with spoilage or pathogenic microbes. The present study was carried out to evaluate biocide resistance profiles of biofilm forming bacteria of dairy niche towards commonly used biocides and their control in biofilm formation.

  • Hospital environment is sometimes the reservoir of pathogens that can be passed on to patients in different ways. The emergence of multi-resistant bacteria aggravates this situation, especially in a context of very limited therapeutic options. The objective of this study was to identify the bacterial species present on the environmental surfaces of the Cotonou 5 Hospital in order to control the contamination and the spread of pathogens.

  • Performance evaluation of surface irrigation method was carried out for cotton and wheat fields in village Kirarkot (Sirsa). Water application, storage and distribution efficiency were estimated using measurements of soil moisture, infiltration characteristics, water advance and recession time during different irrigation events. Applied depth of irrigation was estimated based on infiltration opportunity time at different points in the selected border strips.

  • A wound is a breach in the skin and the exposure of subcutaneous tissue following loss of skin integrity. Wound infection occurs as a complication of surgery, trauma or disease that may interrupt a mucosal or skin surface. Wound infections are one of the most common hospital acquired infections. They are an important cause of morbidity and mortality.

  • The proposed models are used to study the effect of the LDS parameters on the groove dimensions (width and depth), lap dimensions (groove lap width and height) and finally the heat effective zone (interaction width), which are important to determine the line width/space in the MID products and the metallization profile after the metallization step. We also study the relationship between the LDS parameters and the surface roughness which is very important factor for the adhesion strength of MID structures.

  • The present study was undertaken to find the infection rate of Cysticercus tenuicollis in goats slaughtered at Bareilly slaughter house. The chemical and biochemical profile of thirty five randomly collected C. tenuicollis cysts was determined including calcium, phosphorus, glucose, creatinine, triglyceride and activities of two enzymes ALT and AST. Out of a total of 382 goat carcasses examined, 88 (23.01%) were found harbouring C. tenuicollis, with 86.36% in abdominal cavity attached to omentum and mesentry, 11.36% to outer surface of liver and 2.26% diaphragm.

  • The main aim of this study to evaluate the bacterial etiology of wound infections and their antimicrobial susceptibility pattern. A total of 225 consecutive, non-repeating clinical specimens from various surface wounds were collected following inclusion and exclusion criteria and processed in the Microbiology laboratory from January to June 2012, following standard methodologies.

  • The charge characteristics of VCS can differ between profile horizons, even within a single soil type. In general, it is found that the surface charge of the topsoil possesses a net negative charge whereas the subsoil may have a net positive surface charge, which is so-called the ‘geric property’.

  • In addition to alterations concerning the expression of oncogenes and onco-suppressors, melanoma is characterized by the presence of distinctive gangliosides (sialic acid carrying glycosphingolipids). Gangliosides strongly control cell surface dynamics and signaling; therefore, it could be assumed that these alterations are linked to modifications of cell behavior acquired by the tumor.

  • Water logging and low application efficiency are main problems inherent with surface irrigation. The methods were surface, surface drip and subsurface drip irrigation with three level of irrigation 100, 80, 60% of potential evapo-transpiration were compared and contour map of soil moisture patterns were analysed for corn in two times; one before irrigation, and other at 48 h after irrigation. The distribution of water in soil profile for potato crop by subsurface drip irrigation system (SDI) studied and it was observed uniform and more yield for all treatments.

  • Linking up with Chapter 2, dealing with uniform flow in open channels, it may be noted that any change in the flow phenomenon (i.e. flow rate, velocity, flow depth, flow area, bed slope do not remain constant) causes the flow to be non-uniform. This chapter will discuss the effect of change in any one of the above quantities, including specific energy, critical depth and slope, and flow types. How to draw water surface profiles will also be introduced.

  • In this chapter, we looked at the different classes which are part of the MVC architecture in Ext JS as well as Sencha Touch. We also looked at the function of each of these classes and saw the differences in their behavior and usage. In addition to the common classes—application, controller, model, view (component)—we also looked at the Touch-specific way to handle profiles to encapsulate device-specific behaviors and layout in the applications. Also, we saw how to set up the routes in a Touch application and have the history tracking in place.

  • On the other hand a model with dynamically inconsistent (quasi-hyperbolic) time preference can explain the decline, for reasonable short-term and long-term discount rates. We also investigate whether households in our sample appear to make an effort at self-control, using a strategy emphasized in the literature: a mental accounting rule that limits borrowing during the pay period and thus puts a cap on overspending. We find that households who are able to borrow, in the sense that they own a credit card, nevertheless exhibit the spending profile characteristic of credit constraints.

  • The ready availability of carbon through the exploitation of hydrocarbon oil reserves over the past century has lead to a vast amount of organic compounds being introduced into the environment either through the use of oil in fuels or the development and production of other chemical products by industry. Literally tens of thousands of synthetic organic chemicals have been and continue to be developed. Many organic chemicals are known to have potential human health impacts and drinking-water quality standard listings developed.
