Natural products have been gaining popularity in recent years as a safe skin-safe alternative solution to synthetic products on the market. In particular, natural ingredients have been found to have skinwhitening properties by inhibiting melanin production and reducing hyperpigmentation. This review provides the analysis of some mechanisms and effectiveness of natural products in achieving even skin tone and reducing the appearance of dark spots.

The extensive use of petroleum–based synthetic plastics is leading to various environmental problems such as ecological impact, and untreated plastic waste, particularly micro–plastic pollution. Bioplastics are, therefore, considered one of the prospective solutions to replace conventional plastics.

This history of antimicrobials is marked with impressive discoveries, the majority of which have their origin in natural products. However in this work, the antimicrobial activity of β- nitrostyrenes and related compounds of synthetic origin is reviewed and investigated with a particular focus on the influence of fluorine functionality. Various fluorinated β-methyl-β-nitrostyrene compounds were prepared, their minimum inhibition concentration in cultures of Gram positive, Gram negative and a fungus and their lipophilicity was determined.

The present work aimed to determine colorants used as food additives to confirm the gummy candy products authentication using a newly designed adsorbent in magnetic dispersive solid phase extraction. Nowadays, many kinds of synthetic dyes are widely added to food products and should be strictly monitored and regulated like other food additives.

The NMR spectra of 15 novel quinolines containing 11 - 34 carbon atoms and bearing substituents such as hydroxyl, sunfo, chloro, bromo, amino, azo and carboxymetoxy groups were recorded in DMSO at 298 - 300 K. For seven quinolines, the 13C-NMR signals were assigned on the basis of an analyzation of the cross peaks in the HSQC and HMBC spectra.

Yellow stem borer has been identified as a major insect pest of deepwater rice, causing severe yield losses. Bt gene(s) from Bacillus thuringiensis have been proven very effective in pest resistance program. The use of transgenic plants expressing Bt gene(s) is now occupied effective approach to control insect infestation. We have successfully introduced a synthetic cryIA(b) gene into embryogenic calli of a deepwater indica rice variety, Vaidehi, by using the biolistic method of transformation.

Semi-synthetic cephalosporin antibiotics belong to the top 10 of most sold drugs, and are produced from 7-aminodes-acetoxycephalosporanic acid (7-ADCA). Recently new routes have been developed which allow for the production of adipyl-7-ADCA by a novel fermentation process. To complete the biosynthesis of 7-ADCAa highly active adipyl acylase is needed for deacylation of the adipyl derivative. Such an adipyl acylase can be generated from known glu-taryl acylases.

Macrophages at an inflammatory site release massive amounts of proteolytic enzymes, including lysosomal cys-teine proteases, which colocalizewith their circulating, tight-binding inhibitors (cystatins, kininogens), so modifying the protease/antiprotease equilibrium in favor of enhanced proteolysis. We have explored the ability of human cath-epsins B, KandL to participate in the production of kinins, using kininogens and synthetic peptides that mimic the insertion sites of bradykinin on human kininogens....

Cell-free protein synthesis offers rapidaccess toproteins that are selectively labelledwith [ 15 N]aminoacids andsuitable for analysis by NMR spectroscopy without chromatographic purification. A system based on anEscherichia colicell ex-tractwas optimizedwith regard toproteinyieldandminimal usage of 15 N-labelled amino acid, and examined for the presence of metabolic by-products which could interfere with the NMR analysis. Yields of up to 1.8 mg of human cyclophilin A per mL of reactionmedium were obtained by expression of a synthetic gene. ...

Hydantoinases (HYDs) are important enzymes for industrial production of optically pure amino acids, which are widely used as precursors for various semi-synthetic antibiotics. By a process coupling genomic data mining with activity screening, a new hydantoinase, tentatively designated HYDJs, was identified from Jannaschiasp. CCS1 and overexpressed in Escherichia coli.

Liver fibrosis ranks as the second cause of death in México's productive-age population. This pathology is characterized by acummulation of fibrillar proteins in hepatic parenchyma causing synthetic and metabolic disfunction. Remotion of excessive fibrous proteins might result in benefit for subjects increasing survival index. The goal of this work was to find whether the already known therapeutical effect of human urokinase Plasminogen Activator and human Matrix Metalloprotease 8 extends survival index in cirrhotic animals.

Oncogene Addiction and Synthetic Lethality The concepts of oncogene addiction and synthetic lethality have spurred new drug development targeting oncogene and tumor-suppressor pathways. As discussed earlier in this chapter and outlined in Fig. 80-3, cancer cells become physiologically dependent upon signaling pathways containing activated oncogenes; this can effect proliferation (i.e.
