The purpose of the study is to quantify breast dose to reassure patients and staff that these understandings still apply. A combination of measurements and simulations were used to estimate absorbed breast dose. Gafchromic® XR-QA2 film was used to measure breast dose placed inside the RANDO® phantom in a series of controlled experiments. The RANDO® is an anthropomorphic phantom commonly used for dosimetry investigations. Gafchromic® XR QA2 film is a radiochromic film that changes colour when irradiated. Simulation is commonly used and readily available.

This research is a visual inquiry into the fashions in 20th century kimono in which I have tried to take into account meaning and interpretation rather than a simple chronology of change. There is minimal information in English about kimono fashions during the 20th century, which has led to the assumption that kimono is now a traditional form of dress and not subject to style change.

The aim of this research is to produce information on decision making in relation to fertiliser use. This information can be used in the Game Theory model to calculate optimal strategies on phosphorus fertiliser application amounts for the individuals within the group. If the results indicate a benefit to the individual and the community as a whole, and are seen as practical, then on a catchment wide basis this should lead to changes in management practices that will minimise phosphorus pollution of the Hopkins River catchment’s waterways.

This study reconsiders current public lighting design and suggests alternative practices that were determined through a case study involving a main street shopping strip. Using design as an investigative method this thesis seeks to inform and inspire practitioners and decision makers by illustrating the possibilities of change. Australian cities are witnessing an unprecedented growth in urban density and if we do not change our thinking, the quality of our urban spaces will not match this growth.

Studies on nanoparticle-protein interaction have also not been studied. This would give information on ratio influence on the structural alteration of EGCg in EGCg-AuNPs and its functionality in vivo. Herein, the optimisation of EGCg-AuNPs will be determined with a large pool of stoichiometric synthesises of gold and EGCg. These optimised EGCg-AuNPs would then be studied with bovine serum albumin (BSA) for protein interactions, binding and thermodynamics.

Family Law within Australia has undergone extensive legislative and operational changes since its inception. It is an area of law that impacts upon a number of stakeholders such as children, parents, law enforcement agencies, the Government and judicial officers. The research took a small facet of the operation of the Family Law Act 1975, namely the enforcement of parenting orders by police services. What are the key aspects to achieving acceptable usability outcomes for information systems being developed? The changing technologies and increased usage across the general population, the impacts of this in our everyday lives, at work and at leisure are exponentially increasing. The interfaces and interaction styles presented as part of these technologies have been challenged to be more intuitive, contextually sensitive, location aware, human centred and aimed at a larger community of stakeholders.

This research found that local government, especially in remote and disadvantaged areas is the face of all government in the eyes of the residents. State and Federal Governments have high expectations and compliance regimes, but local government has limited capacity and resources to effectively meet these legitimate demands and also respond to the demands of the local residents and citizens. The lack of financial resources is exacerbated by limited human resource capacity, especially in the Glenelg Shire, the 5th worst local government area in the state in terms of education and occupation.

The aim of this study is to develop a perspective on culture which would integrate the views of both opposing camps. By applying the principles of ancient Chinese philosophy, especially the Yin-Yang principle, a balanced, holistic conceptualization was proposed which hold that culture is composed of both a stable and a changing dimension, which dialectically transform into each other to give culture a certain degree of stability and inheritability on the one hand, and a momentum for change and variability on the other, in an ongoing, spiraling process of cultural emergence.
