The collaborative research

This research has foundations in collaboration; the collaboration of ideas, agreement on requirements and harnessing of benefits. This is fitting for a research subject since research shares the same virtues. In this section a summary of the research will be provided. The summary will briefly explain the origins of the research, how the research was proposed. It will then provide a synopsis of the research methodology and application. The qualitative research case studies will be explained and the quantitative research discussed.

The research project is a collaborative, action inquiry, case study that investigates the gendered and inclusive practices of a teacher, exploring gendered language and behaviour that is (or not) utilised within their teaching. The researcher and the participant teacher plan, conduct, observe, reflect and discuss the role of gender in the learning and teaching practices in a grade 3/4 classroom.

The concept of coworking caters to freelancers and entrepreneurs who not only seek a shared office space but also be part of a socially bound group with similar ideas and goals. The aim of providing a space that fosters collaboration, sense of community, enhances creativity and sustains communication within a diverse group of independent professionals. Whilst the concept has flourished over the span of 10 years, little is known of the participants’ experiences within coworking spaces and whether such spaces do deliver what it promises.

The study examines how Small-Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) demonstrate a range of innovation capabilities when they collaborate with a regional university research centre. This collaboration is shown to be important to create and exchange new knowledge to advance the firms innovation performance. The study demonstrates the ability of firms to acquire and exploit this knowledge, which is a business competency described as absorptive capacity (AC). AC relies on several antecedents or factors to engage with a collective learning process.

Given the breadth of the technological landscape, this research focuses on the use of online collaborative toolsets (OCTs).
