The structure of the complex between the minor groove binder netropsin and d(GGCCAATTGG) was determined via single-crystal X-ray tech-niques. The structure was refined to completion usingrefmac5.1.24, result-ing in a residual R-factor of 20.0% (including 68 water molecules). Using crystal engineering and cryocooling techniques, the resolution could be enhanced to 1.75 A ˚ , resulting in an unambiguous determination of the drug conformation and orientation.

NAD + -dependent (R)-2-hydroxyglutarate dehydrogenase (HGDH) cata-lyses the reduction of 2-oxoglutarate to (R)-2-hydroxyglutarate and belongs to the D-2-hydroxyacid NAD + -dependent dehydrogenase (D-2-hydroxyacid dehydrogenase) protein family. Its crystal structure was determined by phase combination to 1.98 A˚ resolution. Structure–function relationships obtained by the comparison of HGDH with other members of theD-2-hydroxyacid dehydrogenase family give a chemically satisfying view of the substrate stereoselectivity and catalytic requirements for the hydride trans-fer reaction.

Bermuda grass pollen (BGP) contains a very complex mixture of allergens, but only a few have been characterized. One of the allergens, with an apparent molecular mass of 21 kDa, has been shown to bind serum IgE from 29% of patients with BGP allergy. A combination of chromato-graphic techniques (ion exchange and reverse phase HPLC) was used to purify the 21 kDa allergen.
