The development of fruits without fertilization is known as parthenocarpy. Parthenocarpy improves the fruit quality, processing attributes, production and productivity of vegetable crops like tomato, cucumber, watermelon etc. Absence of seeds can enhances the shelf life of the fruits, allowing a better conservation, fruit set in adverse climatic conditions, early and offseason production of vegetable crops. Therefore, it is important to ensure yield stability regardless of environmental conditions.

Sterol regulatory element-binding proteins (SREBPs) are tightly controlled by various mechanisms, including intracellular localization, protein process-ing, limited proteolysis, post-translational modifications and interaction with associated proteins. Here, I review the regulatory mechanisms of SREBP activity through the interaction with various kinds of protein.

Ca 2+ regulates a multitude of cellular processes and does so by partition-ing its actions in space and time. In this review, we discuss how Ca 2+ responses are constructed from small quantal (elementary) events that have the potential to propagate to produce large pan-cellular responses. We review how Ca 2+ is compartmentalized both physically and functionally, and describe how each organelle has its own distinct Ca 2+ -handling prop-erties.

Virtually every process in a cell is carried out by macromolecular com-plexes whose actions need to be perfectly orchestrated. The synchronization and regulation of these biological functions is indeed critical and is usually carried out by complex networks of transient protein interactions. Here, we review some of the many strategies that proteins in regulatory networks use to achieve the dynamic plasticity necessary to rapidly respond to diverse cellular needs.
