  • The numerical model is then applied for the pipeline system of Lion oilfields in Cuu Long Basin, Southern Vietnam. Sensitivity analysis have been performed to investigate the influences of various factors on the slug flow in the pipeline system. The results from this work would be useful for tracking and controlling the slugging effect on the separator performance

  • In this study, poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) based nanofiltration (NF) membranes were prepared by coating a thin PVA film on polysulfone ultrafiltration support substrates. The PVA film was cross-linked using malic acid in the presence of HCl as a catalyst. The impacts of crosslinker content and PVA molecular weight on physicochemical properties and separation performance of the prepared membranes were investigated.

  • This paper describes the largest scale annotation project involving the Enron email corpus to date. Over 12,500 emails were classified, by humans, into the categories “Business” and “Personal”, and then subcategorised by type within these categories. The paper quantifies how well humans perform on this task (evaluated by inter-annotator agreement). It presents the problems experienced with the separation of these language types. As a final section, the paper presents preliminary results using a machine to perform this classification task. ...

  • There is a Wall of Silence separating you from some of the best performing investments in the world today. Some of these investments are hidden from you because of obsolete regulations and others purely out of ignorance (since most brokers are primarily salesmen, not true investment analysts). Even more are kept from you for the purpose of protecting the self interests of Wall Street. This virtual information blackout on these top-performing alternative investments could be costing you a fortune. As you’ll learn in this report… ...

  • Compilation of all Java™ source files is no longer the only step necessary to build many Java-based projects. For the typical HelloWorld program, book examples, and simple applets, source file compilation is sufficient. Complex Java-based projects, like web applications or Swing-based programs (such as JBuilder), require much more. Up-to-date sources must be retrieved from source control. Dependencies not automatically handled by the Java compiler need to be managed. Various classes must be bundled and delivered to multiple locations, sometimes as JAR or WAR files.

  • These definitions are placed in the historical order of their appearance in the language. So the earliest use of a handbookwas as a set of instructions which members of particular occupations kept at hand in order to be able to refer to them when they were uncertain of how to tackle a problem at work. The most recent definition, by way of contrast, refers to a scholarly book consisting of separate essays or articles.

  • This review discusses various interactions between organic compounds, brought into the lead–acid battery via the separator, and their subsequent effect on battery performance. Historically, the interrelationship started with certain ‘expander’ actions on the lead morphology due to lignins, which leached out of the wooden separators of that time. Synthetic separator materials did not show this effect, but gained acceptance as they were far more stable in the hostile battery environment. The partially hydrophobic character of synthetic separators has been overcome by organic surfactants.

  • For a more reliable assessment of future performance, the k-fold cross validation [Sto74] is often applied. An advantage of this technique is that all samples in the data set are fully utilized. In a k-fold cross validation, the data is randomly separated into k partitions of equal size. In each of the k runs, (k – 1) partitions are combined to form the training set and the remaining partition is held out as the testing set. This process repeats k times, each time with a different partition of training and testing sets. The average performance of the model...

  • Analytical chemistry is the study of the separation, identification, and quantification of the chemical components of natural and artificial materials.[1] Qualitative analysis gives an indication of the identity of the chemical species in the sample and quantitative analysis determines the amount of one or more of these components. The separation of components is often performed prior to analysis

  • Conventional project evaluation also tends to undervalue public transportation service quality improvement benefits (Litman 2007b). High quality, grade separated public transit attracts people who would otherwise drive on congested roadways, which reduces the point of congestion equilibrium (the level of congestion at which travelers reduce their peak-period trips). Although congestion never disappears, it is not nearly as bad as would occur without such transit services.

The essential oils are widely used in perfumes, cosmetics as well as in food and drink as flavor additives. Some essential oils show multiple pharmacological activities and have been considered as the major active fractions of herbal medicines [1–3].

  • We present M AGEAD, a morphological analyzer and generator for the Arabic language family. Our work is novel in that it explicitly addresses the need for processing the morphology of the dialects. M AGEAD performs an on-line analysis to or generation from a root+pattern+features representation, it has separate phonological and orthographic representations, and it allows for combining morphemes from different dialects. We present a detailed evaluation of M AGEAD.

  • The central questions are: How useful is information about part-of-speech frequency for text categorisation? Is it feasible to limit word features to content words for text classifications? This is examined for 5 domain and 4 genre classification tasks using LIMAS, the German equivalent of the Brown corpus. Because LIMAS is too heterogeneous, neither question can be answered reliably for any of the tasks. However, the results suggest that both questions have to be examined separately for each task at hand, because in some cases, the additional information can indeed improve performance. ...

  • Many errors produced by unsupervised and semi-supervised relation extraction (RE) systems occur because of wrong recognition of entities that participate in the relations. This is especially true for systems that do not use separate named-entity recognition components, instead relying on general-purpose shallow parsing. Such systems have greater applicability, because they are able to extract relations that contain attributes of unknown types. However, this generality comes with the cost in accuracy.

  • The reaction was performed using 0.2 mol% catalyst at 100o C in dimethylformamide (DMF) and in the presence of K3PO4 as a base, with biphenyl being formed in a conversion of up to over 95% (GC) without added phosphine ligands. It was also observed that the modified bentonite catalyst could be facilely separated from the reaction mixture by centrifugation or simple filtration, and could be reused in subsequent reactions without significant degradation in activity.

The experimental results on 20 benchmark imbalanced datasets collected from the UCI repository show that our methods significantly outperform the baseline NB. These methods also perform as good as the state-of-the-art sampling methods and significantly better in certain cases.
