  • This work is focused on the implementation, development, documentation, analysis, and assessment of the flipped classroom methodology, by means of the just-in-time teaching strategy, for a pilot group (1 out of 6) in the subject “Applied Computing” of both the Chemical and Materials Engineering Undergraduate Degrees of the University of Barcelona. Results show that this technique promotes self-learning, autonomy, time management as well as an increase in the effectiveness of classroom hours.

  • The students' lack of motivation is a usual problem. The students value more the obtention of the degree than the developing of competences and skills. In order to fight this, we developed a gamification's experience based on merits and leaderboards. The merits are linked to the attainment of skills and competences that students usually do not appreciate. During the year 2016, we are carrying out a pilot involving 950 students at the Graduate of Engineering in Computer Science at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB).

  • In order to fulfll the European Higher Educaton Area requirements in the subject “Chemical Engineering Experimentaton II” (Chemical Engineering Undergraduate Degree, University of Barcelona), generic skills in teamwork, and both writen and oral communicaton were developed and assessed with the help of rubrics. The methodological usefulness of rubrics in formatve/summatve assessment was tested by means of student validaton. The students’ perceptons of the teaching/learning process were collected, analyzed and compared to the academic marks.

  • The teaching assistants in the School of Psychology at the Autonomous University of Barcelona are a group of students who provide support to the teaching staf. Afer three years, collaboratve work has proven to be an efectve method for the executon of the teaching assistants’ responsibilites. The results of two satsfacton surveys, one answered by the teaching staf and another by the teaching assistants, are analysed in this paper.

  • Professor O.C. Zienkiewicz, CBE, FRS, FREng is Professor Emeritus and Director of the Institute for Numerical Methods in Engineering at the University of Wales, Swansea, UK. He holds the UNESCO Chair of Numerical Methods in Engineering at the Technical University of Catalunya, Barcelona, Spain. He was the head of the Civil Engineering Department at the University of Wales Swansea between 1961 and 1989. He established that department as one of the primary centres of ®nite element research.
