  • Cordyceps gunnii (berk.) Berk (C. Gunnii) is well known as a Chinese rare caterpillar fungus and has similar pharmacological activity with C. sinensis. In this work, a high-molecular-weight polysaccharide (CPS) was isolated and purified from the mycelia of C. gunnii. The total sugar content of CPS was amounted to 92.84%. The result of HPLC indicated that CPS was a homogeneous polysaccharide. The estimated average molecular weight of CPS was 3.72 ×106 Da. The specific rotation of CPS was recorded [˛]25 D = +134.2◦.

  • The comparative study of the content and structure characteristics of fucoidans from five Sargassum brown seaweed species in the south provinces of Vietnam was conducted. The yield of fucoidans was ca. 4% (w/w) based on dry seaweed. The percentage of sulfate and uronic acid content was determined by Scott method. Fucoidans were hydrolyzed with trifluoroacetic acid, acetylated and their L-fucose, D-xylose, D-rhamnose, D-mannose, D-glucose, and D-galactose contents were identified by gas chromatography.   • Cordyceps is a well-known traditional medicine to heal various serious diseases for centuries. Besides, polysaccharides isolated from Cordyceps had demonstrated to exhibit potential bioactivities, especially antioxidant activity. Hence, this study concentrated on the antioxidant effects of exopolysaccharides (EPS) isolated from ten kinds of Cordyceps cultured broth. Consequently, Cordyceps sinensis cultured broth possessed the highest EPS as well as total carbohydrate content, but the nearly lowest protein content (2.75 g/l, 69.39 % and 1.01 % respectively).

  • This study examined the influence of drought stress during the flowering stage of 2 canola cultivars on some physiological characteristics, antioxidant activities, and gene expression of antioxidant enzymes. Significant differences were observed among interactions of cultivars and levels of drought stress in total shoot dry material, relative water content percentage, proline, carbohydrates, gene expression, and activities of antioxidant enzymes.
