  • : Fluid vents in the Sea of Marmara were discovered and investigated by several studies. In this paper, a numerical model is created for the first time to determine the possible transport mechanism behind those fluid emissions at the seafloor. The finite volume method is used for numerical simulations by implementing a commercial finite volume code, ANSYS-Fluent. The thermal and physical rock properties used in our models are taken from previous studies.

  • Weather Research and Forecast model (WRF) was coupled with Comprehensive Air Quality Model with Extensions (CAMx), and found that regional transport contributed significantly to PM2.5 pollution in Zhangjiakou (74.6%). The results of this study indicate that joint prevention and control of regional air pollution would meaningfully improve air quality in the BTH region.

  • Gold nanochannels were prepared by plating electrolessly gold within the pores of polycarbonate filter membranes (PCTMs). These PCTMs with cylindrical Au nanotubules of uniform radius and high density can be used as a convenient model system to investigate the mechanism of particle transport through nanotubules. The transport properties of phenol through a modified Au nanotubule membrane were studied.

  • MiRNAs regulate circadian patterns by modulating the biological clocks of animals. In our previous study, we found that the clock gene exhibited a cosine expression pattern in the fallopian tube of chicken uterus. Clock-controlled miRNAs are present in mammals and Drosophila; however, whether there are clock-controlled miRNAs in the chicken uterus and, if so, how they regulate egg-laying rhythms is unclear.

  • In this article, the issue of improving the quality of passenger service of urban passenger transport in large cities and megacities on the routes, operating on the Bus Rapid Transit technology, is considered. Quality improvement is achieved by automatic regulation of the movement of each passenger vehicle during the movement on the route after disturbing influences in order to ensure the movement of each vehicle on schedule. As a mechanism for regulating Autonomous traffic, an advanced bus driver assistance system is proposed.

  • Cadmium (Cd) exposure and sulfate limitation induce root sulfate uptake to meet the metabolic demand for reduced sulfur. Although these responses are well studied, some aspects are still an object of debate, since little is known about the molecular mechanisms by which changes in sulfate availability and sulfur metabolic demand are perceived and transduced into changes in the expression of the high-affinity sulfate transporters of the roots.

  • Most of the South Asian and Pacific countries have similarities in setting the policy and execution of dairy and beef cattle genetic improvement programmes. Historically, governments have played a major role in cattle farming and breeding activities; nowadays, however, the initiatives of the private sector or of non-government organizations are modifying the needs of farmers for support from the government. About 90% of the contribution of the livestock sector is from small holders and this proportion is highly consistent across countries.

  • The diffusion of television ownership was rapid and demo- graphically broad. Contemporaneous polling data show that tele- vision penetration rose from 8% to 82% from 1949 to 1955 among those with high school degrees, and from 4% to 66% among those without. Other demographic groups tend to show a similar pat- tern: television diffusion was rapid among both whites and non- whites, and among both elderly and nonelderly Americans. 7 In households with television, viewership had already surpassed four and a half hours per day by 1950 (Television Bureau of Ad- vertising 2003)....

  • The online survey ran from mid August to mid October 2011, targeting16 men and women of all ages from all 22 Arab countries. We received 469 full responses, and 62% of these were from women. At the national level, we highlight three Arab countries—Saudi Arabia, Egypt and the UAE17 —to illustrate similarities and variations between country responses. The typical respondent was aged between 15 and 40 years old, holding at least a bachelor’s degree (with 40% holding master’s degrees).

  • Achieving an adjustment range of 347 to 525mm is not feasible with normal gas strut mechanisms, since the starting dimension of 347mm requires a gas strut of relatively short stroke (100mm), because larger strokes would result in excessive collapsed heights. Gas struts with strokes of 120mm were most common in the chairs evaluated for the government contract, with starting heights averaging 413mm. However, it is reasonable for chair manufacturers to supply two height ranges which would together cover the range determined by anthropometric data.

  • Vietnam has been reforming its forest management in favour of household and local organization (Barney 2005). The government increasingly gives local people the right to manage the forests. Unfortunately, in this changing environment, recognition of local people’s rights is still limited and local knowledge and perspectives are rarely taken into account by the state institutions implementing land titling and decentralization. The challenge is to better inform each stakeholder on the perspectives of people living in and near the forest on the natural resources and landscapes.

  • In the box published in October, we focused primarily on forecasts made for European economies in early 2010. The reason was simple: A number of large multiyear fiscal consolidation plans were announced then, particularly in Europe, and conditions for larger- than-normal multipliers were ripe. First, because of the binding zero lower bound on nominal interest rates, central banks could not cut interest rates to offset the negative short-term effects of a fiscal consolidation on economic activity.

  • Distance-learning business education is a resounding success story. In America, specialist universities, such as the University of Phoenix, have hundreds of thousands of postgraduate business students enrolled. In India the total is probably in the millions. If, perhaps, the very top tier of universities are yet to offer distance pro- grammes, still some very notable ones do: Carnegie Mellon or Thunderbird in America, Warwick or Insitito Empresas in Europe, for example. Yet students who take their MBAs at a distance can find themselves railing against some intense snobbery.

  • LIFE IN EARTH’S ATMOSPHERE presents a formidable challenge to land plants. On the one hand, the atmosphere is the source of carbon dioxide, which is needed for photosynthesis. Plants therefore need ready access to the atmosphere. On the other hand, the atmosphere is relatively dry and can dehydrate the plant. To meet the contradictory demands of maximizing carbon dioxide uptake while limiting water loss, plants have evolved adaptations to control water loss from leaves, and to replace the water lost to the atmosphere.
