Cancer clinical trials (CCTs) are essential for cancer care, yet the evidence is scarce when it comes to racial disparities in CCT participation among cancer survivors in the Midwest. This study aimed to 1) assess disparities in the awareness of and willingness to participate in CCTs between African American and White cancer survivors; and 2) compare perceptions about CCTs between the two racial groups.

This study aimed to explore the effect of a prior cancer history on the survivals of resected non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients. Methods Kaplan–Meier method with a log-rank test was used to compare overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS) between groups. Propensity score matching (PSM) method was used to reduce bias.

Querying electronic health records (EHRs) to find patients meeting study criteria is an efficient method of identifying potential study participants. We aimed to measure the effectiveness of EHR-driven recruitment in the context of ADAPTABLE (Aspirin Dosing: A Patient-centric Trial Assessing Benefits and LongTerm Effectiveness)—a pragmatic trial aiming to recruit 15 000 patients.

During a Phase 2 rectal microbicide trial, men who have sex with men and transgender women (n ¼ 187) in 4 countries (Peru, South Africa, Thailand, United States) reported product use daily via short message service (SMS). To prevent disclosure of study participation, the SMS system program included privacy and security features.

Identifying acute events as they occur is challenging in large hospital systems. Here, we describe an automated method to detect 2 rare adverse drug events (ADEs), drug-induced torsades de pointes and Stevens-Johnson syndrome and toxic epidermal necrolysis, in near real time for participant recruitment into prospective clinical studies.

To introduce a novel analytical approach for randomized controlled trials that are underpowered because of low participant enrollment or engagement. By offering an internally valid analytic framework, the Distillation Method can increase the power to detect effects by redefining the estimand to subpopulations with higher enrollment probabilities and stronger average treatment effects while maintaining the original randomization.

There is little evidence about the lived experience of older people who have completed a falls prevention exercise programme and their life beyond their intervention. Despite good intentions and perceived benefits, on-going participation in falls prevention exercises beyond a structured, supervised intervention was not a priority for these older people.

Age-related decline in physical capacity can lead to frailty, associated with an increased vulnerability to adverse health outcomes and greater healthcare utilization. In an aging population, efective strategies to prevent physical decline and frailty, and preserve independence are needed. Prevention programs for vulnerable communitydwelling older adults are, however, often not yet established and implemented in routine practice.
