Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is a common genetic cardiovascular disease and a major cause of sudden death. It is also involved in increasing morbidity and mortality of various cardiovascular diseases. Genetic factors have been found to be important in determining the phenotypic manifestation of cardiac hypertrophy. However, only 50–60% of HCM patients have been identified as having pathogenic variants in known genes, suggesting that more studies are needed to find more disease genes.

Obesity is well known that in various human pathological states such as: essential hypertension, coronary heart disease, type 2 diabetes mellitus,... Insulin resistance plays an important role in pathological state of diabetes. Recently, Katz et al provided QUICKI index (Quantitative insulin sensitivity check index) for insulin resistance condition evaluation.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the deadliest cancers. Research on HCC so far primarily focused on genes and provided limited information on genomic repeats, which constitute more than half of the human genome and contribute to genomic stability. In line with this, repeat dysregulation was significantly shown to be pathological in various cancers and other diseases. In this study, we aimed to determine the full repeat expression profile of HCC for the first time.

Leptospirosis is zoonosis, presenting as a febrile illness with protean manifestations. Since disease is amenable to antibiotic therapy, early diagnosis helps in better management and prevention of complications. In many parts of our country, prevalence is either underestimated or unestimated. Hence this study was conducted with the objective of determining the seroprevalence of leptospirosis among clinically suspected cases, describe the various sociodemographic parameters, occupation and risk factors among seropositive cases.

Regulator of G-protein signaling (RGS) proteins were originally identified as negative regulators of G-protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) signaling via their GTPase-accelerating protein (GAP) activity. All RGS proteins contain evolutionarily conserved RGS domain; however, they differ in their size and regulatory domains. RGS1 and RGS10 are smaller than other RGS proteins, and their functions involve various inflammatory responses including autoimmune responses in both the periphery and the central nervous system (CNS). Neuroinflammation is the chronic inflammatory response in the CNS.

Mitochondrial functional and structural impairment and generation of oxidative stress have been implicated in aging, various diseases and chemotherapies. This study analyzed azidothymidine (AZT)-caused failures in mitochondrial functions, in redox regulation and activation of the HIV-1 gene expression. We monitored intracellular concentrations of ATP and glutathione (GSH) as the indicators of energy production and redox conditions, respectively, during the time-course experiments with U937 and MOLT4 human lymphoid cells in the presence of AZT (0.05 mgÆmL)1) or H2O2 (0.01 mM) for 15–25 days.

In this study, we isolated mammalian cell lines for screening of Hsp modu-lators; mouse C3H10T1/2 cells stably transfected with a plasmid containing the mouse Hsp105 or human Hsp70B promoter upstream of a luciferase or b-galactosidase reporter gene, respectively....

X-prolyl dipeptidyl aminopeptidases (X-PDAP) are enzymes catalysing the release of dipeptides from the amino termini of polypeptides containing a proline or an alanine at the penultimate position. Involved in various mam-malian regulation processes, as well as in chronic human diseases, they have been proposed to play a role in pathogenicity forStreptococci.

Homocysteine (Hcy) is anonprotein-forming sulphur amino acid that plays an important role in remethylation and trans-sulphuration processes. In recent years, it has been suggested that increased levels of plasma Hcy may play a role in the pathogenesis of various diseases, particularly at the cardiovascular level. The pathogenic mechanism of hyperhomocysteinemia, however, has not been clarified.
