Acute renal injury (AKI) caused by hypotension often occurs in elderly patients after gastrointestinal tumor surgery. Although vasoactive drugs can increase effective filtration pressure, they may increase renal vascular resistance and reduce renal blood flow. The effect of methoxamine on renal function is not clear.

The infusion of magnesium sulfate is well known to reduce arterial pressure and attenuate hemodynamic response to pneumoperitoneum. This study aimed to investigate whether different doses of magnesium sulfate can effectively attenuate the pneumoperitoneum-related hemodynamic changes and the release of vasopressin in patients undergoing laparoscopic gastrointestinal surgery.

Laparoscopic nephrectomy is a preferred technique for living kidney donation. However, positivepressure pneumoperitoneum may have an unfavorable effect on the remaining kidney and other distant organs due to inflamed vascular endothelium and renal tubular cell injury in response to increased systemic inflammation. Early detection of vascular endothelial and renal tubular response is needed to prevent further kidney injury due to increased intraabdominal pressure induced by pneumoperitoneum.

Increase of pulmonary vascular resistance (PVR) is an efficient method of modulating pulmonary and systemic blood flows (Qp/Qs) for patients with left-to-right (L-R) shunt, and is also closely associated with insufficient oxygen exchange for pulmonary hypoperfusion.

Based on the hypothesis that resistance to VSD varies in cocoa and that rootstocks can influence VSD resistance of scions through grafting, the present research aimed to assess the VSD-incidence on cocoa scions of Sulawesi local clones in the field after grafting onto rootstocks from cocoa resistant genotype trees, to evaluate the effect on VSD-incidence in the scions on various cocoa rootstocks and to study whether a clone with proved resistance to VSD will result in an equivalent resistance if it is used as a rootstock.

Thirty-five of them, who presented with systolic HF and were not eligible for HTx due to RFPH, were included in the study (31 men aged 55.1 ± 7.4 years). In all the patients sildenafil was introduced and uptitrated to a maximal tolerated dose in addition to optimal medical therapy. Patients were assessed at 3–6 months intervals.

Vancomycin (VCM) is effective in fighting Gram-positive bacteria related severe infections, and topical application of VCM powder is widely used in orthopedic surgery to prevent wound infection. However, VCM could lead to infusion rate-dependent antibody-and complement-independent anaphylaxis reaction by inducing direct release of histamine.

Post-spinal anesthesia hypotension during cesarean delivery is caused by decreased systemic vascular resistance due to the blockage of the autonomic nerves, which is further worsened by inferior vena cava (IVC) compression by the gravid uterus. This study aimed to assess whether peak velocity and diameter of the IVC below the xiphoid or right common femoral vein (RCFV) in the inguinal region, as measured on ultrasound, could reflect the degree of IVC compression and further identify parturients at risk of post-spinal hypotension.

The clinical range of central venous pressure (CVP) (typically 5 to 15mmHg) is much less than the range of mean arterial blood pressure (60 to 120mmHg), suggesting that CVP may have little impact on estimation of systemic vascular resistance (SVR). The accuracy and feasibility of using an arbitrary CVP rather than actual CVP for the estimation of SVR during intraoperative period is not known.

Systemic sclerosis (SSc) is a rare disease, and the presence of pulmonary hypertension can be a determining factor in prognosis. The aim of this study was to evaluate the diagnosis, profile, and prognosis of systemic sclerosis pulmonary hypertension (SSc-PH) diagnosed by systematic screening in a Brazilian population.

The 6th World Symposium on Pulmonary Hypertension (Nice 2018) proposed a new definition of pre-capillary pulmonary hypertension (PH) as a condition with mean pulmonary artery pressure (mPAP)>20 mmHg, pulmonary artery wedge pressure ≤15 mmHg, and pulmonary vascular resistance (PVR)≥3 Wood units (WU).

Minoxidil (2,4-diamino-6-piperidinopyrimidine 3-oxide) was primarily recognized as a drug for reducing vascular resistance to blood flow. It was later introduced as a more important medicine for topical stimulation of hair growth and baldness reverting as well as treatment of androgenic alopecia through increasing prostaglandin endoperoxide synthesis.

Pulmonary tumor thrombotic microangiopathy (PTTM) is a rare cause of pulmonary hypertension that is associated with malignancies and is marked by the presence of non-occlusive tumor emboli and fibrocellular intimal proliferation of small pulmonary arteries leading to increased pulmonary vascular resistance and right heart failure.

According to a recent study, significant correlation between hemosiderin deposition in the lung tissue of IPF and pulmonary hypertension evaluated by echocardiography has been suspected. In this study, we aimed to evaluate whether HLM in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) is a factor correlated with pulmonary hemodynamic parameters evaluated by right heart catheterization in patients with IPF.

Vascular endothelial growth factor-a (VEGF)-targeted therapies have become an important treatment for a number of human malignancies. The VEGF inhibitors are actually effective in several types of cancers, however, the benefits are transiently, and the vast majority of patients who initially respond to the therapies will develop resistance.

Ionizing radiation (IR) is a mainstay of cancer therapy, but irradiation can at times also lead to stress responses, which counteract IR-induced cytotoxicity. IR also triggers cellular secretion of vascular endothelial growth factor, transforming growth factor β and matrix metalloproteinases, among others, to promote tumor progression.

Angiogenesis plays a role in tumor growth and is partly mediated by factors in both the fibroblast growth factor (FGF) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) pathways. Durable clinical responses with VEGF tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) may be limited by intrinsic tumor resistance.
