Important factor in political decision-making is a public opinion as well. Therefore, it is very important to raise global ecological awareness and wider public education regarding ecology. Goal of this book is to bring closer to the readers new drive technologies that are intended to environment and nature protection. The book presents modern technique achievements and technologies applied in the implementation of electric vehicles. Special attention was paid to energy efficiency of EV's. Also today's trends, mathematical models and computer design elements of future cars are presented....

The applications of underwater vehicles have shown a dramatic increase in recent years, such as, mines clearing operation, feature tracking, cable or pipeline tracking and deep ocean exploration. According to different applications, the mechanical and electrical configuration and shape of an underwater vehicle are different. For instance, manipulators are necessary when doing mines clearing operation or some other tasks which need to deal with environment.

Everything we consume or use requires energy to produce and package, to distribute to shops or front doors, to operate, and then to be got rid ofi. The global demand for energy is expected to increase but conventional energy sources are limited and have carbon emissions to the environment. The utilization of renewable energy sources such as wind energy, or solar energy, among others, is currently of greater interest.

» Risk management is forward-looking and proactive. To be effective, risk management should seek to identify for management material risks that might impact the fund, the likelihood of them occurring, and the extent of their impact should they occur. Trend reports and other regular, formal processes may facilitate this effort as well as brainstorming sessions and thinking “outside the box.” Risk management, however, also can play an important role in analyzing past challenges and recommending changes to prevent their recurrence....

The way we design, plan and build our cities and their infrastructure is critical for developing competitive and liveable cities. Cities are already suffering from severe environmental problems, such as pollution, congestion and excessive waste, while the basic needs of hundreds of millions of urban residents are yet to be met. The unprecedented urbanization imposes an even greater challenge for providing adequate housing, energy, water, sanitation and mobility to all. Cities are at a crossroads.

high heats by mass removal. Their most common use is as an external heat shield to protect supersonic aerospace vehicles from an excessive buildup of heat caused by air friction at the surface. The ablative material must have a low thermal conductivity in order that the heat may remain concentrated in the thin surface layer. As the surface of the ablator melts or sublimes, it is wiped away by the frictional forces that simultaneously heat newly exposed surfaces. The heat is carried off with the material removed. The less material that is lost, the more efficient is the ablative material....

A popular definition of workload is given by O’Donnell and Eggmeir, which states that “The term workload refers to that portion of the operator’s limited capacity actually required to perform a particular task” [1]. In the vehicle environment, the “particular task” refers to both the vehicle control, which is the primary task, and other secondary activities such as listening to the radio. Three major types of driver workload are usually studied, namely, visual, manual, and cognitive.

Buses and other fleet vehicles are the perfect avenue to introduce fuel cell power plants into the marketplace. Because the vehicles return to a central station each night, they can fill up with hydrogen without the need for an extended hydrogen infrastructure. We are pleased with how our fuel cell power system has performed during revenue service in buses in California, Connecticut, and Belgium. Our customers have been impressed with the performance and fuel efficiency of the power plants, and passengers enjoy the comfortable, quiet, and odor-free ride of the bus.

Greenhouse gases such as CO2 and methane are believed to contribute to global warming. Dust is a common problem throughout all mining activities. Dust generated by vehicle traffic can be reduced through a variety of means. Where water resources are not limited, regular watering with mobile water trucks or fixed sprinkler systems is effec- tive. Otherwise the application of surface binding agents, the selection of suitable construction materials and the sealing of heavily used access ways may be more suitable.

Technology can be viewed as an activity that forms or changes culture.[11] Additionally, technology is the application of math, science, and the arts for the benefit of life as it is known. A modern example is the rise of communication technology, which has lessened barriers to human interaction and, as a result, has helped spawn new subcultures; the rise of cyberculture has, at its basis, the development of the Internet and the computer.[12] Not all technology enhances culture in a creative way; technology can also help facilitate political oppression and war via tools such as guns.

Although the government policies are contradictory, the overall impression is that they are favorable. The plan to expand the trolley bus system was mentioned in all the five year plans since the sixth plan but this never happened The National Transportation Policy 2001 has mentioned that environmentally friendly electric vehicles shall be promoted but the government has stopped registration of new SAFA tempos in Kathmandu has been stopped. Instead, hundreds of diesel vehicles and other vehicles continue to be added every day.

Now-a-days, dealers of natural resources like fuel, coal etc. are facing a hard time to keep pace with the increasing demand. At one hand, there are more cars or motor vehicles are dominating the transport medium, on the other hand these cars are being dominated by the fuel. As a result, the limited resources are being quashed by the producers and dealers to satisfy this need which is leading us to an uncertain future with having the scarcity of fuel and minerals. So, it is clear that present trends in energy consumption, especially oil, cannot be sustained much longer. Again,...

The first approach has the drawback that assumptions need to be made about the average an‐ nual vehicle mileage. The second approach allows to derive for cars an average annual mileage by confronting the car stock with the car transport demand that is derived in the MODAL and TIME CHOICE module. In the first version of PLANET the first approach was used. In the new version of PLANET, the second approach is used.

I think that running or working in a small business is one of the coolest things a person can do. Really. I mean it. Sure, sometimes the environment is dangerous — kind of like the Old West — but it’s also an environment in which you have the opportunity to make tons of money. And it’s also an environment in which you can build a company or a job that fits you. In comparison, many brothers and sisters working in big-company corporate America are furiously trying to fit their round pegs into painfully square holes. Yuck....

Steel mills that recycle scrap metal face a similar incidental emissions problem. North American automobile manufacturers have used hundreds of thousands of kilograms of mercury in vehicle switches and other applications, such as headlights. Much of this mercury enters the atmosphere when the scrapped cars are melted down to make new steel, while some of it contaminates the ground in the yards where the cars are crushed or shredded. Nearly all of the mercury found in cars enters the environment.
