  • The research population included 204 college students enrolled in life sciences who were participating in an introductory physics course. A blended learning model was used, based on large, traditional faceto-face lectures, practice sessions held with smaller groups of about 25 students and a rich Moodle learning environment. The students' knowledge and understanding were assessed weekly throughout the semester, using two different methods: three ordinary short written tests and online quizzes in the Moodle environment.

  • Three-dimensional virtual environments have gained wide popularity due to improvement in graphic rendering technology and networking infrastructure. Many education institutions have been trying to leverage the potential of 3D virtual environments in their application in education. In this research, we aim to evaluate the students’ perception of virtual environments in teaching and learning activities. We set up a virtual classroom, where a short presentation was delivered to students through virtual projectors in Second Life, the most widely adopted 3D virtual environment.

  • The results of the study informed that the overall mean score of teachers’ intention to continue using VLE is 4.21. This mean score indicated that the intention to continue using VLE technology among the Malaysian teachers is at the moderate level. Despite this, the percentage of the teachers with high intention to use VLE whenever they have access is higher than those with the low intention.

  • This study is designed to identify which competencies have predictive relationship with knowledge sharing in virtual learning team in distance education. The study was conducted with 1,355 distance education students at undergraduate and graduate levels. This study suggests that loyalty, integrity, cooperativeness and trust have statistically significant predictive relationship with knowledge sharing.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify whether social presence relates to knowledge sharing in virtual learning teams in distance education. The participants in the study were 1355 students engaged in distance education programs. Both split sample and the total sample were used for different analyses. The findings of the study confirmed social presence as a twodimensional construct, which involves interactive responses and cohesiveaffective responses. Only interactive responses were found to relate to knowledge sharing.

  • The purpose of this study is to design a conceptual framework for application of electronic mechanisms of knowledge management in e-learning environment. A three-step strategy has been adapted in this research. The first step deals with designing an initial framework for the research based on review and analysis of the related literature. The proposed conceptual framework has considered typology of knowledge including the knowledge “from”, “for” and “about” the learner to introduce electronic mechanisms of knowledge management.

  • This study investigates the impact of a 3D virtual learning environment based on Second Life on student motivation and achievement in learning English as a second language. Twenty-one university students participate in this study, with the support of an English instructor. The Motivated Strategies for Learning Questionnaire (MSLQ) was used to evaluate students’ intrinsic and extrinsic goal orientation and self-efficacy in Second Life. The pre-test and post-test were used to assess students’ learning achievement.

  • This article examines the development of novice instructional designers in a reflective learning community. The study was situated in a blended learning course, which utilized a web-based learning management system as a communication platform. Drawing from communities of practice as a theoretical framework, we examined (1) how individual and group characteristics influenced knowledge construction, (2) how members developed their epistemic frames of instructional design, and (3) the dynamics of group interactions during the knowledge constructions in the learning community.

  • This study used an online virtual environment to create and develop a Chinese learning community. The purposes of research were (1) to enhance the Chinese learners’ oral Chinese communication skills and (2) to change the community members’ Chinese speaking and teaching behavior. This is an action research. The research tried to create a community in a virtual environment.   • Here we investigate the problem of determining the application protocol in use in aggregate traffic composed of several TCP connections which all employ the same application protocol. Unlike previous approaches such as BLINC (Karagiannis et al., 2005), our approach does not rely on any information about the hosts or network involved; instead, we use only the features of the actual packets on the wire which remain observable after encryption, namely: timing, size, and direction.
