In this study, laboratory wastewater containing organic matters, heavy metals and aromatic compounds, was treated by vetiver grass (Vetiveria zizanioides) as a phytoremediation. Sewage effluent as a source of nutrient supply for plant growth was first fed to two wetland systems: Mini horizontal subsurface flow (HSSF) and floating raft (FR) wetlands.

Activated carbon (AC), a porous material with high pore volume, attracts increasing attention owing to its potential applications in several fields. The development of a porous structure in AC marginally relies on both the treatment methods and the type of precursor. Thus far, both renewable and nonrenewable precursor sources have been used to synthesize AC with high surface area and pore volume. This study presents the synthesis of AC via physicochemical treatment of waste oil fly ash (OFA), a waste material produced from power plants.

An experiment was carried out at the Horticulture Research Farm, Department of Applied Plant Science (Horticulture) Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University (A Central University), Lucknow to Effect of biofertilizer and kitchen waste manure on vegetative growth of chilli cv. Pusa Jwala. The results revealed that the that application of treatment T10 [RDF 50% + kitchen waste manure (25 and 50 days after transplanting)] was found to be the best treatment in respect of betterment of vegetative growth except treatment T7(RDF 50% + kitchen waste manure) showed the early flowering to harvesting (23.

From the experimental results emanated from first crop of okra, among the Municipal Solid Waste Compost (MSWC) treatments application of 100% Rec. NK + FMSWC with poultry manure 10% (9:1) at 5 t ha-1 along with phosphorus (M4P1) recorded lowest Pb, Ni and Cd contents at harvest stage in soil which was on par with the treatment, 100% Rec. NK + FMSWC with SSP at 5 t ha-1 along with phosphorus (M7P1) which was significantly lower than that of other treatments with FMSWC at higher doses. Onion crop was raised as succeeding crop to study the residual effect of municipal solid waste compost.

Biological treatment aims at using plants and animals to reduce nutrients load and particulate matter in shrimp farm discharge. Although extensive literature is available on the different types of shrimp culture practices, its advantages and disadvantages including the impact caused due to enormous application of chemicals such as antibiotics and use of robotics, he information available on the treatment of effluent in general and biological methods in particular are very scarce.

Quantification of mass flows in production lines and waste treatment lines, as well as quantification of energy consumption at a factory is always challenges in cleaner production and pollution control decision making. The case study has conducted at a representative steel making complex in Vietnam, simulating the material flows of water and waste streams, and energy balance (EB) for water production and wastewater treatment processes, by using STAN (subSTance flow ANalysis) and SANKEY software, respectively.

Phosphogypsum is a by-product of the wet phosphoric acid production. In this study, chemical compositions of phosphogypsum waste (PG) in Hai Phong diammonium phosphate plant (DAP1) and Lao Cai diammonium phosphate plant (DAP2) in Viet Nam were surveyed for the purpose of gypsum recovery by P2O5 , F removal to meet TCVN11833 for use treated gypsum as cement retarder. Studies of impurities P2O5, F, TOC removal by sulfuric acid 10 % at 28 oC was presented.

Clinical Laboratory produces large quantities of liquid infectious waste in the form of body fluids including blood. Biomedical waste management generally covers the solid waste generated in the Health care set up. Liquid infected waste management in a hospital is mainly addressed in the form of Sewage treatment plant (STP) or Effluent treatment plant (ETP) which is made mandatory for hospitals. Construction of these facilities involves lot of financial expenditure. Small facilities may not be able to afford to construct a STP or ETP in their facility.

The field evaluation of composts prepared out of enzyme industrial wastes and municipal solid waste was carried out in farmer’s field in Bangalore, India using maize as a test crop in a randomized complete block design with nine treatments and 3 replications. Two composts: MEES compost and PS compost and fertilizers were used to know the effects on soil properties and agronomic characteristics and nutrient uptake by maize plants. Application of MEES compost and PS compost resulted in increased soil pH and organic carbon content, but the increase was insignificant.

The interest in study of waste management is being increased worldwide presently as the pollution by various means are made day by day. The waste utilization plays a vital role to overcome these pollutions and make possible to utilize the waste. Bananas plant has no use after harvesting the fruit, but it is used in following context significantly: viz. producing bioethanol, single cell protein, cellulase, citric acid, lactic acid, amylase, cosmetics, fibre, bio-film, paper, bio-plastic bio-electricity in the agro-industry, pharmaceuticals, bio-medical and bio-engineering aspect etc.

The objective of the study is to reveal the seasonal variations in the wastewater quality with respect to heavy metal contamination. To get the extent of the heavy metals contamination, wastewater samples were collected from 5 different locations from in and around river Narmada during the Winter, Summer, Monsoon Rainy and Post- Monsoon seasons. The concentration of heavy metals, such as lead, copper, manganese, zinc, cadmium, irons and chromium were determined using Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (AAS).
