  • As a conventional treatment process, centrifugal dewatering of sludge required an additional energy of 1,376 kWh per day for recycling, pumping, mixing as well as transporting sludge. The conclusion was that anaerobic digestion can reduce the green-house gases versus conventional dewatering. The results from this research can thus demonstrate the applicability of anaerobic digestion on conversion of waste to energy, looking forward to resource recovery.

  • The use of industrial waste water for irrigation through drip system has emerged a very important way to utilize its nutrients and removal of its pollutants load by cultivating various crops (tomato, brinjal). An experiment was conducted to evaluate the impact of textile factory effluents (0, 10, 35, 75 and 100% concentration) on germination and some physiological parameters like biomass production, root development in vegetable crop. Plants were raised in small pots in triplicate and irrigated with various concentrations (0, 10, 35, 75 and 100%) of effluent.

  • The field evaluation of composts prepared out of enzyme industrial wastes and municipal solid waste was carried out in farmer’s field in Bangalore, India using maize as a test crop in a randomized complete block design with nine treatments and 3 replications. Two composts: MEES compost and PS compost and fertilizers were used to know the effects on soil properties and agronomic characteristics and nutrient uptake by maize plants. Application of MEES compost and PS compost resulted in increased soil pH and organic carbon content, but the increase was insignificant.
