Ebook "Practical problems in soil mechanics and foundation engineering - Volume 2" discusses the problems of weed control in sugarcane against the background of world-wide cultivation, with emphasis on Taiwan's intensive pattern of crop farming. After a brief botanical description of sugarcane and its cultivation in relation to weed control, the weeds themselves are studied. Chemical control of weeds, problems of crop tolerance and responses of weed species to chemicals are examined.

A field experiment was carried out at Department of Agronomy, Anbil Dharmalingam Agricultural College and Research Institute, Trichy during Rabi, 2018 to study the effect of different weed management practices on nutrient removal, nutrient uptake andgrain yield of transplanted rice. The experiment was laid out in split plot design with four main plot and five sub plot treatments and replicated thrice. The experimental plot size was 20 m 2 . Main plot treatments were pre plant application of herbicides namely, glyphosate 2.5 kg ha-1 , glufosinate ammonium 1.0 kg ha-1 ,halosulfuron methyl 67.

This study was taken to know the weed control efficiency of herbicides in chickpea intercropping with lentil. The weed competition was highest during 30 DAS and the maximum weed density was found in 60 and 90 DAS. Weed species were recorded such as broadleaf weeds like Coronopus didymus, Chenopodium album, Melilotus officinalis, Phalaris minor, etc. The main focus of this experiment was to study dry matter accumulation by weeds at different days after sowing (30, 60, 90, and 120).

To overcome this problem, use of herbicides has become an alternative method. Herbicide application is easier and economical to farmers compared to other weed management practices. Hence the present study deals with the effect of different weed management practices on weed density, weed dry weight and seed cotton yield.

In view of this, a study was initiated to investigate the collateral or alternate hosts and efforts has been made to identify the weed plants with typical symptoms of Myrothecium infection during the visit to coffee plantation under rainy season which acts as additional source of inoculums for disease spread. The result of the study will enable to develop suitable weed management practices and to contain the disease during rainy season.

An on –farm trial was conducted on various farmers field in different villages of Araria district during financial year 2016-17. This trail was conducted to overcome weed infestation during cultivation of chilli in farmers field. It leads to reduction in yield; quality of produce is inferior as compared to better quality produce, increased the cost of cultivation due to manual hand weeding by laborers and reduced the benefit cost ratio. The trial was conducted in randomized block design with three treatments and ten replications.

An alarming fall in groundwater table in Northwest India demands a major shift from traditional method of rice cultivation to direct seeding of rice. Dry-seeded rice has emerged as a viable option to save water, labour, energy and time. Proper tillage and irrigation practices are needed to improve water productivity in dry-seeded rice through reduction in emergence of weeds and reduce ground water depletion and pesticide use. A field experiment was conducted at the research farm of the Department of Soil Science, Punjab Agricultural University...
