INTRODUCTION
Knee osteoarthritis is a chronic disease in which the most
frequent pathology is articular cartilage, associated with the
subchondral bone, ligament and synovium. It is the common disease,
the prevalence is 18 % among the female, and 9.5% among the male,
and 15% population acquired this disease. In Vietnam, osteoarthritis
is ranged in the third common rheumatism diseases (4.66%), and
56.5% hosptitalised osteoarthritis patients was knee OA. The
mainstay treatment was NSAIDs. The long-term usage of this
medication can cause many side-effects. Therefore, it is necessary to
find out the natural medication which helps to reduce side-effects.
The combination medication “Ramulus cinnamomi and Prunus
persica”, and “Semen coisis” which was added with others
ingredients. In traditional medicine, the Ramulus cinnamomi and
Prunus persica ensure the circulation, Semen coisis helps to prevent
the rheumatism diseases, beside, the chronic disease could lead to
organ abnormalities. In term of improve the treatment outcome of
osteoarthritis, this thesis is conducted “Assessment the toxicity and
the efficacity of “Ich goi khang” on the treatment of osteoarthritis”
in order to:
1, Evaluation of acute, sub-acute toxicity of Ich goi khang in the
osteoarthritis mice model
2, Evaluation the efficacity and the side effects of Ich goi khang in the
primary osteoarthritis patients.
1, THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE THESIS
Knee OA is the common disease in many countries around the
world. It leads to disability and handicap. It affects not only health
status but also patient economy. In Vietnam, the treatment is parallel
of modern and traditional medicine.
2
The orientation of the thesis was confirmation the efficacity and
primary mechanism explanation in the OA model. It is a pedal for the
future study. It suggests the natural treatment for OA.
2, THE UP-TO-DATE OF THE THESIS
Thesis evaluated the efficacity of new traditional medicine
treatment. It conducted an OA model by the usage of MIA
(monosodium-iodacetate) which was first time introduced in
Vietnam. The thesis showed the scientific evidences to explain the
anti-inflammatory and pain control effect, and promote the range
motion.
The thesis concluded that: the Ich goi khang has no acute and
sub-acute toxicity. It also shows the anti-inflammatory and pain
control effect in the animal model. After 30 days of treatment, the
VAS score reduced 2.88 1.32 points; the pain relieve and range
motion recovery was reflected by the WOMAC score; the reduce of
WOMAC score was 20.2 8.45 points. The promotion of the knee
function: heel-buttock reduced 6.45 5.65 cm; the productivity of
average range motion 17.42 19.42. All of index was promoted in
comparison with the control group (treated with Agelica laxiflora and
Herba Taxilli), statistically significant p<0.05.
3, THE STRUCTURE OF THE THESIS:
The thesis includes 147 pages
Chapter 1: General description with 40 pages
Chapter 2 : Subjects and methodology with 18 pages
Chapter 3: Results with 40 pages
Chapter 4: Discussion with 44 pages
In the thesis there were 29 tables, 12 graphs, 8 pictures, 10 index, 176
references in which 58 vietnamese materials, 113 english and 5
chinese ones.
