Living in the countryside is something that people from the city often dream about. However, in
10
reality, it has both its advantages and disadvantages.
KIM DONG SECONDARY SCHOOL
SCHOOL YEAR: 2022 – 2023 There are many advantages of living in the countryside. First of all, you can enjoy peace and quiet. Moreover, people tend to be friendlier and open. A further advantage is that there is less traffic, so it is safer for young children.
On the other hand, there are certain drawbacks to life outside the city. Firstly, because there are fewer people, you are likely to have fewer friends. In addition, entertainment is hard to find, particularly in the evening. Furthermore, the fact that there are fewer shops and services means that it is harder to find work. As a result, you may have to travel a long way to work, which can be extremely expensive.
In conclusion, it can be seen that the countryside is more suitable for some people than others. On the whole, it is often the best place for those who are retired or who have young children. In contrast, young and single people who have career are better provided for the city.

What are legends and folktales?
Once upon a time, long, long ago, there lived some really great storytellers. Their stories have been passed down, retold, translated, adapted and, more recently, written down, because everyone loves a good stories. These stories probably include legends, myths and folktales.
A legend is usually based on a true event in the past. Legends usually have a real hero at the centre of the story and they are often set in fantastic places. The story will have been passed on from person to person, sometimes over a very period of time.
Folktales are usually stories that have been passed down from generation to generation in spoken form. Often we do not know who was the original author and it is possible that some stories might have been connected around a campfire by a whole group of people. It is quite normal to discover that there are many versions of the tale, some very similar but others may have only one or two characters in common and take place in totally different settings.

C. Read the text carefully, and then choose the correct answers.
KIM DONG SECONDARY SCHOOL
SCHOOL YEAR: 2022 – 2023 For 3,000 years, Mongolians have lived in the rural areas, adopting a pastoral way of life, moving in the search of new pastures. They depend largely on their livestock for a living and sustain themselves with what they can get from the land. Today, approximately half of Mongolia’s population is still roaming the vast plains living in the ger and moving their camping several times a year. Nomadic life thrives in summer and survives in winter. When temperatures are warm, they work hard on their farms to get milk and make airag, consuming meat from their sheep and goats. Once winter comes, temperatures dip extremely low and they stay indoors and survive on horse meat.
With the rise of technology, changes in the Mongolian nomadic lifestyle are almost inevitable. While they still lead their lifestyle as pastoral herders, many use motorbikes to herd cattle and horses. To move their homes, trucks have taken the place of ox carts. Solar panels are also becoming an addition to the ger, giving them access to electricity without being confined to one place. The nomads use solar energy to power television sets and mobile phones.
