A. creating Read the passage and choose the best option to answer each question below What makes science fiction the literature choice for so many? Arthur C. Clarke, the novelist and scientist, gave a good answer once when asked why he chose to write in this genre: “Because,” he said, “no other literature is concerned with reality.” Clarke didn’t say what sort of reality he had in mind, but there are two that suggest themselves. One of those significant realities of our time is the rapid advances in science and technology. Those are the things that have made the twentieth century move so fast, in ways that earlier generations could hardly even imagine, and science fiction has played some part in accelerating their progress. In the 1930s there was no television, radio showed little interest in science, even the daily newspapers covered it scantily and not very well; but science fiction magazines were exploring in every newsstand edition the latest concepts from genetics and nuclear physics to cosmology. I think it is fair to say that a majority of the world’s leading scientists today were first turned on to their subjects by reading science-fiction stories. The other reality that has contributed to a fascination with science fiction is that the central fact of contemporary life is rapid, ever-accelerating change, change that alters the rules of all our lives all the time. And science fiction is, in essence, the literature of change. 26. Which of the following would be the best title for this passage? A. Why Read Science Fiction? C. Popular Literature of the 1930s. 27. What is the author's main purpose in this passage? A. To explain the popularity of science-fiction literature. B. To show the need for science- fiction literature. C. To classify different types of literature. D. To discuss the work of Arthur C. Clarke. 28. According to the passage, which of the following carried news of science and technology to the public in the 1930s? A. Radio broadcasts. C. Television programs B. Science-fiction magazines. D. Newspaper coverage.

But when I listened to music, I forgot all about the pain. I found a strength I didn't know I had." Ninety-two-year-old Tina Goodman, who regained her ability to walk, thanks to music. This is one of the many stories in Fettaro's book " The Healing Power of Music". Fettaro tries to show just how important music is in our lives and how it can help us to be healthy and happy. According to Fettaro, music can make sick people well again. In fact, his book comes with a CD of recordings, each one specially designed to help with a number of health problems. Fettaro, a well-known music therapist, promises that by reading his book, you will be able to develop the healing power of music in your life. He says this will help you fight headaches and back pain, as well as reduce stress, high blood pressure, and many other common illnesses. Certainly, I accept that listening to certain types of music can help with particular problems, such as stress. I'm also comfortable with Fettaro's claim that by reading his book, you will be able to create a peaceful environment to help you relax in your home. I found the relaxation and breathing techniques very useful. Similarly, his claim that music will help you sleep better seems reasonable. Yet when he goes on to promise his music therapies will help cure depression and even cancer, he begins to sound a little bit unbelievable. Nevertheless, for those of you who are interested in the power of music to heal, this is a great book to buy. It's a thorough introduction to the history and practice of music therapy. Fettaro writes in a simple, easy to understand way and shows clearly how music can affect us positively. His basic message- that music can improve our lives- is well- presented and clear. It may even be true that certain techniques covered here can help people recover from unpleasant health problems. However, his promises of " amazing results" seem impossible to justify. 33. What was Tina Goodman's problem? A. stress 34. What is the purpose of the CD? A. to work as an audio book. B. to support what Fettaro claims. C. to supply some kind of relaxation. D. to give music recordings to help with some health problems. 35. Which statement cannot be inferred from the passage about Fettaro? A. He claims music can cure you of common illnesses. B. " The Healing Power of Music" is his first book. C. He is renowned. D. His writing style is simple and understandable. 36. Which statement is not true? B. Music has positive effects. A. Music can help you sleep better. C. It is necessary to create a peaceful environment when you read Fettaro's book. D. The recordings accompanied with the book are to help with some health problems.
