III. READING (2pts)
Part 1: Read the text and decide if the statements are R (right), W (wrong) (1pt)
The internet started in 1983. Before that date, computers could talk to each other if they
were on the same network, in an office, for example. But they could not communicate
with computers in another building, another city or another country.
Now, with email, text messaging and apps like Instagram, the world is a very different
place, and most people are happy about the changes. However, there are some
disadvantages.
Firstly, some people, especially teenagers, spend too much time on the internet.
The next problem is that some teenagers suffer from FOMO – “fear of missing out”. This
means people become afraid that they will miss something exciting.
If you spend a lot of time sending written messages, you may not learn how to talk
to people face-to-face. People who give jobs to teenagers sometimes say that they often
lack social skills.
Finally, some scientists believe that people who spend too long online do not learn
to concentrate on one thing. They are always clicking from one site or one messaging
system to another. This reduces their attention span.

Part 2: Read the text about the problem of arguing between teenagers and parents.
Choose the best option (A, B, C or D).(1pt)
Teenagers and their parents do not always share the same opinions because they come
from different generations and have different lifestyles. When teens and parents discuss
something and cannot agree with the others point of view, they argue. Teenagers, for
example, often struggle to live without their smartphones, while their parents believe they
spend too much time on them.
Teenagers often think their parents have too much control over them, and parents can't
understand why their children no longer want to communicate with them. This problem
can make both teens and their parents unhappy. However, this does not mean that arguing
with parents is always wrong. As a teenager, if you need to discuss something with your
parents, do so calmly. Remember to pay attention to what your parents say. As for
parents, they should respect their children's opinions and look at their problems from
different aspects before giving advice. Families should also engage in some leisure
activities, such as going on a picnic or watching a movie. This will bring family members
closer together.
