  • With some 200 million hosts generating traffic on the Internet, TCP/IP (transmission control protocol/Internet protocol) has become the protocol suite of choice to support the exchange of messages in commercial operations and residential activities. This hands-on resource provides professionals with a comprehensive picture of the Internet protocol stack and the role of TCP/IP in data communication. It serves as a detailed guide to the protocols, networks, codes, signals, and equipment that make it possible to communicate using TCP/IP.

  • The data we use to address these questions are taken from a large-scale matched worker-firm data set for Germany, the IAB Linked Employer-Employee data set (LIAB). This data set links the IAB-Establishment Panel with individual data for the entire population of workers from the Employment Statistics Register. Due to its administrative nature, one of the major advantages of this data set is that it offers very reliable information on individual daily wages inclusive of supplemental pay as long as such pay is subject to social security contributions.

  • In this paper we examine how the differences in modelling between different data driven systems performing the same NLP task can be exploited to yield a higher accuracy than the best individual system. We do this by means of an experiment involving the task of morpho-syntactic wordclass tagging. Four well-known tagger generators (Hidden Markov Model, Memory-Based, Transformation Rules and Maximum Entropy) are trained on the same corpus data. After comparison, their outputs are combined using several voting strategies and second stage classifiers. ...

  • English noun/verb (N/V) pairs (contract, cement) have undergone complex patterns of change between 3 stress patterns for several centuries. We describe a longitudinal dataset of N/V pair pronunciations, leading to a set of properties to be accounted for by any computational model. We analyze the dynamics of 5 dynamical systems models of linguistic populations, each derived from a model of learning by individuals.

Detailed instructions in the individual chapters will show you step-by-step the many ways in which you can use STEP 7. Creating a Program with Binary Logic In Chapters 2 to 7, you will create a program with binary logic. Using the programmed logic operations, you will address the inputs and outputs of your CPU (if present).

  • In Oracle8 we saw the addition of bitmap indexes, function-based indexes, as well as reverse key indexes and star index structures. We also saw the Oracle SQL optimizer becoming more intelligent about the way indexes are used by SQL statements. In Oracle9i, we have the index skip scan, the and_equal hint to combine individual indexes into a contaminated index, as well as specialized bitmap access methods to improve the speed of data warehouse queries.

  • Loren’s book provides a way for companies to quickly and efficiently use Assistive Technology to make basic spreadsheets accessible. His approach is direct and easy to follow, hands-on, and practical. His innovation, Assistive Portals, opens the door to making graphical interfaces embedded in decision analysis spreadsheets readily accessible to individuals with visual impairments. While making technology accessible is a difficult challenge for the business world, this book brings it well within reach....

  • Stable laws { also called -stable or Levy-stable { are a rich family of probability distributions that allow skewness and heavy tails and have many interesting mathematical properties. They appear in the context of the Generalized Central Limit Theorem which states that the only possible non-trivial limit of normalized sums of independent identically distributed variables is -stable. The Standard Central Limit Theorem states that the limit of normalized sums of independent identically distributed terms with nite variance is Gaussian ( -stable with = 2).

It is important to forecast—and perhaps to alleviate—the pressures that lead to systemic crises, which are economically and socially costly and which require significant time to reverse (Honohan et al., 2003). • » Clear communication facilitates effective risk management. Establishing clear and open lines of communication among interested parties across an organization helps ensure that certain risks do not fall through the cracks and that data and information flowing between business units (including, where relevant, external service providers such as the custodian, fund accountant, and transfer agent) are understood by all to mean the same thing. » Organizational structures and policies themselves can serve as risk controls.
