  • Prepared exclusively for Larry Cormier .What Readers Are Saying About Modular Java Craig Walls does an awesome job in this book covering this very important topic. Whether you are developing an enterprise application or an application to run on your cell phone, modularization is something you have to master, and I can’t think of a better resource than this book you’re holding in your hands. Dr. Venkat Subramaniam Jolt award–winning author and founder of Agile Developer, Inc. Well-written and interesting. I found the “hands-on” style engaging.

  • This book is an introduction to computer programming using C++ as the language for writing programmes, and to solid, fundamental programming principles - including writing structured programmes, looping, data structures and iteration. The approach of this course will be to take the student through a progression of materials that will allow the student to develop the skills of programming. This textbook covers modular/structured programming fundamentals.

  • Building and deploying monolithic applications is a thing of the past. Applications that are composed of several smaller, well-defined modules are a much better way to go. By hiding design and implementation details that are likely to change behind a stable API, each module is easier to maintain, test, and understand. This ultimately affects the overall maintainability and testability of the whole application. Unfortunately, as of Java 6, Java’s built-in facilities for modularity are severely limited. Imperative instructions are modularized into methods...

  • The theory of automorphic functions in one complex variable was created during the second half of the nineteenth and the beginning of the twentieth centuries. Important contributions are due to such illustrious mathematicians as F. Klein, P. Koebe and H. Poincare. Two sources may be traced: the uniformization theory of algebraic functions, and certain topics in number theory. Automorphic functions with respect to groups with compact quotient space on the one hand and elliptic modular functions on the other are examples of these two aspects.

  • Developing a full coreference system able to run all the way from raw text to semantic interpretation is a considerable engineering effort, yet there is very limited availability of off-the shelf tools for researchers whose interests are not in coreference, or for researchers who want to concentrate on a specific aspect of the problem. We present BART, a highly modular toolkit for developing coreference applications. In the Johns Hopkins workshop on using lexical and encyclopedic knowledge for entity disambiguation, the toolkit was used to extend a reimplementation of the Soon et al. ...

  • This work provides the essential foundations for modular construction of (typed) unification grammars for natural languages. Much of the information in such grammars is encoded in the signature, and hence the key is facilitating a modularized development of type signatures. We introduce a definition of signature modules and show how two modules combine. Our definitions are motivated by the actual needs of grammar developers obtained through a careful examination of large scale grammars. We show that our definitions meet these needs by conforming to a detailed set of desiderata. ...

  • In this paper we discuss the current methods in the representation of corpora annotated at multiple levels of linguistic organization (so-called multi-level or multi-layer corpora). Taking five approaches which are representative of the current practice in this area, we discuss the commonalities and differences between them focusing on the underlying data models. The goal of the paper is to identify the common concerns in multi-layer corpus representation and processing so as to lay a foundation for a unifying, modular data model. ...

  • This paper presents the results of the development of a high throughput, real time modularized text analysis and information retrieval system that identifies clinically relevant entities in clinical notes, maps the entities to several standardized nomenclatures and makes them available for subsequent information retrieval and data mining. The performance of the system was validated on a small collection of 351 documents partitioned into 4 query topics and manually examined by 3 physicians and 3 nurse abstractors for relevance to the query topics.

  • This grammar formalism, a high degree of modularity between syntax and semantics. There is a syntax rule compiler (compiling into Prolog) which takes care of the building of analysis structures and the interface to a clearly separated semantic interpretation component dealing with scoping and the construction of logical forms. The whole system can work in either a one-pass mode or a two-pass mode. [n the one-pass mode, logical forms are built directly during parsing through interleaved calls to semantics, added automatically by the rule compiler. ...

  • OSGi in Action is a comprehensive guide to OSGi with two primary goals. First, it provides a clear introduction to OSGi concepts with examples that are relevant both for architects and developers. Then, it explores numerous practical scenarios and techniques, answering questions like: How much of OSGi do you actually need? How do you embed OSGi inside other containers? What are the best practices for moving legacy systems to OSGi?

  • The modular tooling concept was developed by cutting tool manufacturers from the long-standing tooling cartridges (Fig. 112 – indicates a typical self-contained cartridge), which had been previously available for many years. Initially, the modular tooling was designed and developed for turning operations (Fig. 113) and was demonstrably shown to offer amazing versatility to a whole range of machine tools and, not just the CNC versions.

  • Modularity allows you to break your code into manageable, well-defined logical units. Each of these units in PL/SQL is called a program unit, or a subprogram. PL/SQL has two types of subprograms called procedures and functions. This lesson covers the structure of subprograms and how to invoke them. At the end of this lesson, you should be able to Determine the types of program units and where to use them. Explain the differences between and benefits of procedures and functions. Develop subprograms. Invoke subprograms from Procedure Builder....
