  • East and Southern Europe), India, parts of South America, Southwest U.S./northern Mexico and Australia. The operating characteristics of STPPs are relatively well matched with the intermediate and peak electricity load requirements in these regions. Two types of collectors have been used in STPPs: parabolic trough and central receiver. Electricity is generated by incorporating the solar collectors with a Rankine cycle power plant or as an add-on to a natural gas combined cycle (referred to as an ISCCS).

  • High distribution uniformity and low application rate, at frequent irrigation cycles, provide maximum control and monitoring of the wetted and aerated soil profile, which is essential for the shallow root system of the lettuce. Low application rate (3-5 mm/h): allows optimal absorption of water into the soil with no run-off, even on slopes. Low droplet impact: preserves soil structure and prevents crust formation to allow perfect germination and development.

  • HE ADDISON-WESLEY SERIES on Organization Development is legendary in the Organizational Development field and the basis for the change field. Its impact on the field of OD, and on the authors in particular, was and still is profound. This new Jossey-Bass Series is the 21st-Century version of the original theory and practice series. The three editors of the earlier books were Edgar Schein, Warren Bennis, and the late Richard Beckhard—true pioneers, founders, and “godfathers” of the field.

  • While the links between ICT and environmental outcomes are becoming clearer, there is no separate statistical field that links the two. Nevertheless, some data are available from official statistical sources, from analytical work and from product life cycle studies. This report suggests a conceptual framework for the new statistical field “ICT and the environment” based on an existing OECD framework for information society statistics. Sources of official data to populate the framework are investigated and some relevant work has been identified.

  • Although health economics provides a useful starting point for such analyses of coverage, the ultimate effect of a mandate is not easily reduced to, and in fact could differ from, the predicted effect of treating penalty amounts as dollar-for-dollar equivalents to subsidies. People can respond to penalties and subsidies differently and in ways that are not considered in standard health economics models.

  • Although the vision of P2P systems is grand, the technical challenges associated with them are immense, and as a result the realization of the vision has been elusive. Because the membership in the system is ad-hoc and dynamic, it is very difficult to predict or reason about the location and quality of the system’s resources. For example, the placement of data in content-sharing systems is often na¨ ıve: data placement is largely demand driven, with little regard given to network bandwidth, load, or historical trustworthiness of the peer on which the data is placed.

  • Biodiversity is fundamental to sustaining life, providing critical ecosystem services such as food provisioning, water purification, flood and drought control, nutrient cycling, and climate regulation, amongst many others. These services are essential to support human well-being and economic growth. Yet despite the significant economic, social and cultural values of biodiversity and ecosystem services, biodiversity worldwide is being lost, and in some areas at an accelerating rate.

  • The first prediction is that households facing self-control problems will tend to exhibit a decline in consumption between paydays. Intuitively, this is because dynamic inconsistency causes household members to repeatedly succumb to an urge for immediate consumption, and thus run out of money by the end of the pay period (the decline is exacerbated by an unwillingness or inability to borrow, an issue to which we return below).

  • Our empirical evidence is broadly consistent with the predictions of the entrenchment and information effects arguments. We find that earnings informativeness, measured by the earnings-return relation, is significantly negatively related to the ultimate owner’s control level, conditional on the owner having gained effective control. This evidence is consistent with the information effect. We also find that earnings informativeness is significantly negatively related to the degree of divergence between the ultimate owner’s control and the equity ownership level.

  • Some of these are things we can do something about directly ourselves (e.g. ensure that our homes are properly insulated, and use public transport, walk or cycle where possible rather than use our cars). Others are out of our control (e.g. how many new roads are built or whether schools use compact fluorescent light bulbs), though we can still influence them by our investment decisions and by writing to...

  • The size and value effects have been studied by financial economists for years. As indicated above, researchers who first discovered the effects considered them inefficiencies. One explanation is offered by behavioral finance economists. Investors overemphasize their own skill, especially when it comes to their ability to predict the future earnings growth of individual companies.

  • Successful programmers are knowledgeable in two key areas: programming tools and the programming process. Software developers of all backgrounds and in many different working environments - follow a uniform set of procedures in their work. Thus, programmers can work together more easily on large projects and they can accurately predict how their programs will work. You will learn more about the development proccss later in this lesson. First, you will leam about the programmer's special tools: programming languages.

  • Neither source of performance is particularly correlated with the four Fama-French benchmarks, indicating that the private skills identified by these predictability-based strategies are based on characteristics of funds that are heretofore undocumented by the mutual fund literature. The remainder of this paper proceeds as follows. Section 2 sets forth an econometric framework for studying investments in mutual funds when business cycle variables may predict future returns. Section 3 describes the data used in the empirical analysis, and Section 4 presents the findings.

Most IVF centers organize the evaluation by using a checklist that the nurse coordinator and physician assure is complete before proceeding with the cycle. • Our aim is to contribute to the above literature by proposing a life-cycle model with individual income uncertainty that can be used to assess how various macroeconomic factors a®ect the equilibrium value of household credit. We show that its value de- pends on (i) the lending-deposit interest rate spread, (ii) individual income uncertainty, (iii) individual productivity persistence, and (iv) the generosity of the pension system.
