Completion of training through project participation of 30 Provincial Fisheries Directorate staff as trainers of farmers in clam culture management practices
5. Progress to Date 5.1. Implementation highlights
5.1.1 Competency Building Process
In order to build competency following three primary modes were applied.
• Training • Demonstration • Education
The training was provided both in-country and overseas (Australia). The overseas training program mainly targeted to ARSINC and provincial staff who are actively engaged in the project activities. Overseas training consists of structure training (theory and practical) and study tour. The in-country training was focused not only training the staff but also lead farmers and students. In collaboration with Vinh University students dissertation were completed using project topic under the supervision of ARSIC/SARDI senior staff, in particular Project Director from Vietnam and Project Leader from Australia. Students are the future skill base and the program yielded good result. Details presented in the following section. The demonstration program is one of the most effective component in the competency building program. Lead farmers were selected for participating in the demonstration based in a selection criteria. The farmers participating in farm trials and demonstrations will be engaged as trainers for training programs for other farmers. A flow chart is provided for showing the competency building process
