BEFORE SPEAKING Work in pairs. Ask and answer the following questions: Aims: Engage students’ attention to books and reading books.
ENGAGE What types of books Do you often do you often read? read books? When do you read books? How do you read books?
TASK 1: Work in pairs. Complete the following conversation and practise reading it. A:- What ________________________________? sort (kind) of books do you like to read B:- Well, I like reading all sorts of books. Short stories, science fiction, romance, everything. A:- How _________________________? do you often read books? B:- Well, I often read through the book quickly first. Then I start reading it again, and this time very slowly to enjoy every detail of it. A:- When _________________________? do you often read books? B:- I read books whenever I have a little free time. I also read while waiting for the bus or during the break at school.
TASK 2: Aim: - Develop students’ speaking skills by free speaking about reading habits. Work in pairs. Ask and answer about each other’s reading habits, using the questions in the above conversation.
Suggested answer: A:- What do you often do in your free time? B:- Reading books A:- What sort (kind) of books do you often read? B:- Short stories. A:- How do you often read them? B:- When I find a good story A:- When do you often read books? B:- Whenever I have free time.
TASK 3: Work in pairs. Complete the following conversation and practise reading it. A:- What ________________________________? are you reading at the moment B:- At the moment? Well, I‘m reading “The Chamber of secrets”, one of Harry Potter books. A:- Who _________________________? Is the main character B:- The main character? A young boy, Harry Potter, whose parents are dead and who is trained to be a wizard in a wizard school. A:- What _________________________? Is she/he like? B:- He is brave, witty and very kind to other people.
TASK 4: Work in pairs. Ask and answer about the book you are reading at the moment or you have already read recently. Note down the answers.
TASK 5: Work individually. Report the result to the class.
Suggested answer: At the moment, Nam is reading “Die Another Day” – a detective story. The main character is James Bond – 007. He is very brave, talented, handsome, intelligent and humorous. He struggled against terrorism and saved the world from the war.
