UNIT 12: WATER SPORTS A: READING I. AIMS/OBJECTIVES OF THE LESSON 1. Language focus: To provide Ss with new words and phrases 2. Skills: To develop reading skills: skimming for general ideas and specific information 3. Attitudes: To encourage Ss work in pairs and groups II. PREPARATION 1. Teacher: - Teaching aids: Lesson plan, text book, new words - Teaching method: Communicative language teaching 2. Students: - Read Unit 12– reading at home III. PROCEDURE 1. Class organization (1 minute) 2. Check – up (5 minutes) - Some students revise connectors - Some students revise passive voice 3. New lesson (35 minutes) STUDENTS’ ACTIVITIES TEACHER’S ACTIVITIES 1. Before you read Before you read - Read out the words and phrases then check their meanings - Instructs Ss to read the words and - Work in pairs, ask and answer the questions phrases in the glossary + This kind of sports is called water polo. It is often played in a pool. Players are of tow teams. They use their hands to pass the ball, throw the ball and score the goals. - Introduces some new words and - Pay attention to new words and phrases phrases 2. While you read While you read - Listen to the tape and read the passage for the first time - Plays the tape, asks Ss to listen to Task 1 the tape while reading - Work individually skim the passage, finish task 1 then - Asks Ss to read out the words and compare the answer with their partners: their definitions 1. e 2. c 3. a 4. b 5. d - Calls some of the Ss to do task 1 4. Consolidation (3 minutes) - Words and phrases 5. Homework (1 minute) - Words and phrases
